Hey there, can anyone provide some guidance as to where i can find strange awesome new tunes?

It'll End in Tears by This Mortal Coil is incredible

Anyone who’s never heard it should listen to it

It’s an all time work of brilliance

^^Pretty cool, thanks. It seems they weren't really a band though, so it listens more like a compilation album.

Like the 6ths that way but earlier

For Ownyourowncreation re: Strange. Unsure if these would fit the bill -
Anything by Orgy. Alt/industrial: Great cover of New Order's Blue Monday on Candyass.
Ladytron-Indie/Electronic.
Dum Dum Girls-Dreampop

Catherine Steel-Have been categorized as shoegaze; not so and band hated this categorization. While they are awash in sound, they're harder than shoegaze and Rob Dickenson's (cousin of Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson), vocals much more in the forefront than shoegazers.

Hi,

Thinking this forum/thread might be right place to find some new (or new to me) artists.

Bands I'm currently into:
Metric
Kasabian
Catherine Steel
The Dandy Warhols
Razorlight
Blue Stones
The Charlatans (I have strong Britpop leanings)
The Raconteurs (giddy they're releasing new material now w/new album for '19!)

Strong likes from several years ago:
Divine Fits (A Thing Called Divine Fits was on heavy rotation several years ago; forever hopeful they'll do another: it's Superduo Britt Daniel/Spoon (indie sweetheart) and Dan Boeckner/Wolf Parade
Love and Rockets
Jesus and Mary Chain
New Order
Chris Isaak

Always in rotation:
Garbage
Beady Eye
The Strokes

Especially Love blending of guitars with electronics.
Not esp. fond of low-fi, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels.

Suggestions welcome and thanks much!

i try not to reommend more than 2-3 stuff but you probably already know someof them so:
[i should say maybe the electronic element you mentioned is either absent or not playing a big role (more in production than in front line if i can describe it as such), so if its important to you....ignore them]

flaming lips a soft bulletin
lush- lovelife
cake- pressure chief
still corners 1st album
the do -both ways open jaws
john frusciante - the empyrean

Ziggywas I absolutely love your picks!!!! Especially Lush is soo catchy and energetic... How do you look for new Indie Music?

ziggywas 03-03-2019 03:45 PM

alexabbuehl welcome and thanks a lot!
i have like 3-4 friends with who i share findings new or old.
then usually one thing leads to another.
i also take a look at some musical sites like pitchfork, treble, etc
i try to get my hands to some paper-fanzine which in my country i am usually able to do maybe once a year. once upon a time that was the main way i d found new things.

but the greatest discovery for me in the last 2 years musically is mixcloud.
1. from time to time i make mixtapes and upload them. that, for me, kinda changes the way i listen to music, makes it more... i dont know, focused i guess. and
2 i have found some people i like their taste, and listen to their tapes (or radio shows)

that about it! although i m not 100% happy with those and i guess thats why i joined this site. (i m new here like yourself) so, again, welcome!

so what else do you like to hear? you can start an introduction thread (thats the way it goes here) so people get to know you.
