Contrary to the poster above, the voice and the singing style were a hooking point for me and the elements of music fell in their place later (generally it's the other way around). "This Is Our Music" kind of disappointing me at first, but I've warmed up to it. And I am with you on the voice, he sounded so sunny and welcoming to me. The musical chemistry hit me later on.

It certainly hasn't always been that way, I mean I regard Loveless as one of the most important albums I ever listened to. It's strange how over time your opinions change, I remember thinking years ago about how I would always regard Loveless as my favourite album no matter WHAT, I found it so good. But although I've known Galaxie 500 almost as long, I still love them and listen to them often nowadays, which isn't the case really for MBV.

btw I only bring up shoegaze because you often see G500 mentioned in association with that style of music.

Yeah, I understand. Galaxie 500's has a certain immediate emotional grip on you when you hear it. You kind of fall into it, and their music just ends up meaning a lot more in the end. I do love Loveless and all, but if push came to shove I could live without it, just because I only see it as the brilliant music, and not brilliant music + some sort of other connection.

Yeah i definitely grew to love Dean's voice since i first heard it, it sounds unique and has a real raw feeling of emotion in it. His voice suits the pain and loneliness of his lyrics perfectly.

This Is Our Music is my second favourite album. It's not as immediate as On Fire but you really grow to love songs like 'Fourth Of July, 'Spook' and their cover of 'Listen, The Snow Is Falling'. The extended instrumental section at the end of the latter is incredible, the actual song itself seduces you and draws you right in and then the instrumental section blows your mind. Probably the highlight of the album for me.
