The Triffids

Another one of the finest bands ever to come out of Australia (Perth in this case), this here's the creative vehicle for a certain David McComb (RIP), and a really neat combo of retro indie, folk rock with a few shades of psychedelia and post-punk there to spice things up a bit - kinda like a more psychedelic version of Starfish-era Church, at least to these ears.

Born Sandy Devotional (the middle one) is my personal favourite, and easily one of the truly great Australian albums, but the other two pictured (In the Pines and Treeless Plain) are well worth having too...

...and a couple of videos. Listen, discuss, say 'hey, I know these guys - you're so great Bulldog; I wish I could be more like you' or don't;

Hey, I know these guys - you're so great Bulldog; I wish I could be more like you!

I do actually know these guys, and although I haven't listened to them extensively these are probably the two songs that I know the best and like quite a bit:

I don't actually own any of their albums so maybe I should get on that... maybe I should check out Born Sandy Devotional.

Anyway, :thumb:

Yay, my thread's got a bite :D

As far as their albums go, Born Sandy Devotional's definitely the one you need if you only end up getting one of them. The followup, Calenture, is meant to be quite good too - I'm downloading it as I type this. David McComb released a solo album a little while before he died called Love Of Will too - pretty neat stuff (it's got Bad Seeds Warren Ellis and Martyn P Casey on it, so I'd expect no less!).

Just let me know if you fancy a link. That goes for anyone else who's curious enough too.

Also, talking of Born Sandy Devotional;

I listened to the 5 videos in the thread and i'm interested! Could you send me Born Sandy Devotional? You're so great!

Sorry for the late reply - I only just saw this a minute ago!

And, yeah, sure. I'll have a link with you sometime tomorrow.

So, there I was listening to this...

...for the first time (took me long enough too), before I started thinking "wahey! this is pretty cool! I should totally make this experience completed by making a post on MB about it".

And here it is. Pretty decent album, despite a weak spot or two, so it's not flawlessly profound and forward-thinking like, say, Born Sandy Devotional is. Much more of a leaning towards pop melodies and catchy choruses than the former as well.

Here, have a video;
