It's main genre is indie electronic but there's also parts of dream pop and some shoegaze. If you want a sample you can check out ''Graveyard Girl'' or ''Kim & Jessie''.

I chose this album because I really like it and in my opinion it hasn't got enough recognition. I'm interested to see what you think about it if it gets discussed.

So, what did you guys think of it?

There are a couple spots on the album that got a little too emo for me (like to depressed teenage girl monologue) but for the most part the album is great. Those bits knock it down from being brilliant (as well as the repetitive bit at the end that I actually listened through just to make sure I didn't miss anything) so I voted very good.

I'll admit that I didn't even listen to this one. I've had midterms and other school-related stuff. Not to mention I'm in three other album clubs (which I probably shouldn't be). I'm definitely going to listen to the Woods album, though. I love freak folk.

Yeah, I'm sorry I've missed the discussions of the earlier albums. I've been really busy. But I really like this album. The dreamy mood of it really fits with my mood often. I do agree with duga that it gets a bit repetitive which is what keeps it from being brilliant. Would still recommend it to anyone who likes indie electronica/pop, especially of the dreamy kind!

was a bit disappointed when I got it cos it was not purely electronic

but a pretty good shoegaze album, nonetheless

It's probably my favourite M83 album, with Before The Dawn Heals Us not too far behind in second place. I have a lot of memories attached to this album and for me it's one of those albums that transports you back to a certain time and place. It transports me back to around this time 2 years ago and the memories associated with that period.
One thing I really love about the album is the almost seamless collision of electronics and live instrumentation, and the dreamy shoegazey textures blending it all together. The songs themselves are very memorable and have a certain bittersweet feel to them.
I think the album flows very nicely, as if it's one piece of music with each individual song forming a movement in this musical journey. As regards 'Midnight Souls Still Remain' (the droning 11-minute repetitive track at the very end) I presume it's meant to cause some kind of hypnotic, meditative, trance-like effect on the listener but I very rarely listen to the whole track. I'll usually listen to it for about 5 minutes and then get bored and hit stop. But overall it's great album.

Much prefer Before the Dawn Heals Us. Pure electo shoegaze goodness.
