My nomination is Public Strain (2010) by Women.

It's an indie rock album that incorporates elements of noise and punk into it (and a little bit of drone which is shown in the song "Bells"). I found the album itself very enjoyable, and it doesn't include too much experimentation into the general sound but it does have a bit to keep the listener interested. I also found the vocals to have a kind of dream pop feel to them (somewhat like Galaxie 500) which, in my opinion, is just great. There's more to include, but I would rather not discuss the entire album if it ends up being voted on.

I'm very interested to see what some of you nominate!
So... what did you guys think?

I downloaded this album around the end of last year and I was never really impressed with it. They kind of come across as a poor man's Deerhunter to me. The first 5 tracks don't seem to do much for me whatsoever, it's not until track 6 'China Steps' that the album starts to get a bit interesting. 'China Steps' is the standout track for me as it has a nice arty Confusion Is Sex-era Sonic Youth feel to it which I like somewhat. The last track 'Eyesore' also fairly decent. Overall though it doesn't really interest me that much and it's an album I wouldn't be inclined to listen to very often.

If I had to guess at their influences I'd say Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground, maybe a bit of Zappa thrown in. I'd say it's a decent album though maybe not particularly noteworthy. It's a reasonable take on some well-worn genres.
