Default Creation Records

There was a great documentary on BBC4 looking into the history of Creation the other night, and it got me thinking - what are my favourite releases from the label? With this in mind, I came up with a top 10:

1. My Bloody Valentine – Loveless

2. Primal Scream – Screamadelica

3. Slowdive – Souvlaki

4. Ride – Nowhere

5. My Bloody Valentine – Isn’t Anything

6. SwerveDriver – Mezcal Head

7. Primal Scream – XTRMNTR

8. Teenage Fanclub – Bandwagonesque

9. Felt – Forever Breathes the Lonely Word

10. House of Love – House of Love

If you had to construct a similar list of your own, how would it look? Indeed, what are you thoughts and opinions on the label that became a torch bearer for alternative British music from the mid 80s right through to the millennium?

I must see that documentary. Creation along with 4AD, Factory and Rough Trade have had such a huge impact on British alternative music and it's impossible to imagine what indie and alternative music would be like today if it wasn't for them.

There's so many great Creation albums to choose from but my top 10 would look like:

1. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
2. Slowdive - Souvlaki
3. Primal Scream - Screamadelica
4. Slowdive - Pygmalion
5. Ride - Nowhere
6. Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque
7. My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything
8. Felt - Forever Breathes The Lonely Word
9. Adorable - Against Perfection
10. Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix

It's a huge pity that the label isn't around today, just imagine what bands would be signed to it. There could even be bands with great potential languishing in obscurity today that could get exposure through Creation Records if it was still around. The British indie and alternative scene today could be so different.

Yeah, I can't help but think if Creation was still active British music would be a hell of a lot more interesting than it is right now.

i actually found the early singles from Creation more engaging, rather than full albums, though Loveless is my all-time fave record ever

singles from The Weather Prophets and The Loft, amongst others
