Bedhead

I've recently got into these guys a lot. They're classed as slowcore, though their sound encompasses post-rock, shoegaze and the mid-90s indie rock sound too. They exhibit a subdued style, but one that's also layered with the nimble interplay of the band's three guitarists. I guess Codeine, Seam and Silkworm are reasonably similar.

WhatFunIsLife is an outstanding album, essential for anybody into 90s alternative I'd say, whilst beheaded is great too.

Any fans round these parts?

I have WhatFunIsLife but I could never seem to really get into them as much as the likes of Codeine or Red House Painters. Then again I have only listened to that album a handful of times and probably should listen to it more and pay better attention to really appreciate it.

That's interesting, it grabbed me straight away, whereas both Frigid Stars and the Rollercoaster LP, for example, were slow burners

They were one of my favorite bands for years. Texas natives to boot.
Transaction de Novo is probably my favorite. Comparisons to Codeine are apt but I find Red House Painters to be an entirely different animal (Kozelek croons emotionally and melodically while Kadane mumbles along with the band's downcast instrumentation). The Kadane brothers next band, The New Year, is pretty good but just not the same.

Very cool that others dig 'em too! I was in the process of doing a write-up of WhatFunLifeIs for my 100 Albums thread, and decided to use the search function to see if anyone else was a fun. Pleasantly surprised!

That is one of my favorite albums.

The only issue I have with WhatFunLifeIs, and it's trivial really, is that I feel the album loses a bit of focus over the last four songs. Other than that, I think it's near faultless, and the first seven songs are perfect.

Sure thing, WhatFunLifeWas is the greatest work of them. But I am a lil bit more 'Transaction de Novo' person for myself.

Interesting. I like The New Year but their music just sounds kind of .. shallower? I dunno. Albini's production helped both bands sound more rhythmic and lively (probably why I like Transaction de Novo best) but The New Year lacks Bedhead's solemnity .. or something. I also saw them (The New Year) open for Shellac and loved it - but I'd rather have seen Bedhead.
