Nirvana did that with a million bands. Without Nirvana it would be very hard to find bands like Mission of Burma, The Wipers, The Urinals etc etc in music shops. I thank Nirvana for that, if nothing else.

And yet I still can't find the Raincoats anywhere...
And Frank Zappa's endorsement hasn't led me to Philosophy of the World yet. |
Recently picked up two of their albums, Bossanova & Doolittle, both great albums although my favourite song atm. is Dig for Fire.
Absolutely class. Cheers! |
Dig For Fire has always been my favorite song... I won't say it's their best, but for some reason it's always clicked best with me...

I can't help but smile when listening to Surfer Rosa, especially when Frank and Kim scream on 'Bone Machine'. Favourite Pixies song is probably 'Caribou'.

It's because it's not the 'Punk way'. And I believe the 'Punk way' is a load of bollocks that people use to try and make themselves appear cooler and more musically educated than the rest of us.
|
dunno about any 'punk way'. i hear about new bands from loads of different sources (inc boards like this). You have to hear about a band from somewhere!
|
The punk way is where you are supposed to listen to bands that aren't mainstream and not follow the crowd and listen to whatever else is listening to. Look it up on wikipedia or something for the full definition. You are right about having to hear about a band from somewhere, but followers of the 'Punk way' will only listen to bands through the Punk scene. They can't listen to bands via commercial airplay or whatever. Which is the dumbest thing ever. It's a very restricting rule that doesn't really allow for much scope around the music business. To me followers of the Punk way are very small minded, and are just sheep themselves.
