indie as in indie label.

indie is a really dumb name for a genre, but a good genre.

all indie means is not commercial really. Can entail tons of different types of music and influences. Then there are indie artists that become commericial... but even those I consider indie.

I don't think anyone has the same definition of indie as anyone else...

if you like GO4, have a peek at some of the new bands they have influenced heavily.

back to the pixies, well, what else is there to say? massively influential, yet massively underrated in my opinion.

Underrated? They are really well known. I went on holiday to Weymouth just as The Pixies went on tour and they were on the front cover of nearly every magazine. And the Foo Fighters were touring alongside them aswell, and you would usually expect the Foo Fighters to get the front cover.

they are definetly underrated. yes, they are known, yes they are popular. but their influences on what came afterwards are overlooked. when you think about bands that important in the developement of music, the pixies are one the most significant. yet they still have this status of a cult band.

they never made it to popular radio much... in that way they could be underated. They owned US college radio though so in that way they weren't underated. Depends on your point of view I guess....

im not talking about radio so much. REM owned college radio, their still one of the biggest bands around today. im generally talking about the way people percieve the pixies. for example, with exception of doolittle, not one pixies album is seen as truely great. when in reality i think they have 3 truely great albums at least. another example, everybody accredits nirvana to developing grunge. without the pixies there would be no grunge in the first place.
