Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis
Has anybody read this book? It is purely amazing, in my opinion. It is written by lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as it says in the title. But its an autobiography about his life... on tour, drug use, clean up, etc. I finished it recently and I really want to read another book similar to it, but haven't found anything.
It kind of makes me wish Eddie Vedder had an autobiography, that would be good. Does he?? |
I loved it. Eric Claptons and Slashes were also wonderful.

If you want something similar to a recollection of the early days of the Chili Peppers I'd recommend:
Whores: An Oral biography on Perry Farrel and Jane's Addiction. It's mostly written as snippets and comments from various people associated with Perry and his bands during their early days and up to the reunion that would result in the recording of Strays. Another great rock bio book is THE DIRT. The Motley Crue bio. Just. WOW. Absolute MUST READ for anyone even remotely interested in the debauchery of the rock and roll lifestyle. This last one might not suit everyone but Get In The Van by Henry Rollins is a chronicle of his journals and thoughts during his time with Black Flag. There's no glamourization here, no stories of stabbing through a briefcase full of cocaine, no sexing up a fat chick to drive her new sports car, just raw reflections on the reality of being an independent touring band doing it on your own dollar; though it does teach you the proper way to eat dogfood, and exploit an all you can eat salad bar. Anyone thinking of starting up a punk band and hitting the road NEEDS to read this book first. |
Wow thanks for the suggestions. I am definitely checking those out. I love reading about the lifestyle because it's like an escape from reality (or my reality at least) but still all true stuff.

I didn't prioritize that last list but that Motley Crue book is bananas. It's one of the few books I literally couldn't put down. I read the whole thing within a weekend. I wouldn't mind scoring a good Van Halen or David Lee Roth bio either. There are also a few Led Zep bios out there that vary in legitimacy but they're all very entertaining reads as well. |
I quite enjoyed Keith Richards' book Life. Totally different style of music but it is good.
