The first Franz Ferdinand album, followed not long after by Weezer's Blue Album.

I have no idea... I guess the first alternative album I bought was probably Blood Sugar Sex Magick. First indie album, I don't know. I remember buying Bleach at a pretty young age.

And it's simply a lie to say that there aren't independent bands anymore, by the way. I can think of plenty of things I listen to that have been produced and released entirely by the band or on very very small labels that I can absolutely gaurantee have no ties to major labels (as in they don't use distribution companies, they do everything themselves). Also, I won't lie and say I know that much about record labels and how they could tie into the major ones, but what about labels like Jagjaguwar? Or the Beggars Group? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't know they had ties.

I guess my first indie album would be: The New Gov. Strikes by The New Gov.. It's the debut album of a local indie band, and I think that was the first time I listen about something called "indie".
I remembered having that album last week, some very good songs.

Mine was Weezer (Blue Album). I was really young (9) but bought it with my allowance because this older boy that I liked who lived above me always wore their t-shirt and obviously I wanted him to think I was cool...

Probably Nirvana's greatest hits or Dirty by Sonic Youth.

A while ago for Christmas I got a Nirvana cd (I think it was their greatest hits). I wasn't really interested in music and I had no idea who Nirvana was so I don't think I listened to it much until I really started listening to music.

The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta ;)

U2 - Joshua Tree,
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Toy Dolls - Dig That Groove Baby
Paul McCartney - Give My Regards to Broad Street
Johnny Cash - Bonanza (was an LP)

Plus a few more. These are albums bought by my parents and older siblings that I would sit down and listen to when I was a kid. I can't remember what the first album I ever bought myself was, but when I was 14 I got a really nice stereo (huge really) quite cheap (paid 4000 NOK for it, which would be about 475 EUR or 700 USD). Pink Floyd's live album Pulse was quite new at the time. I got it and it sounded amazing on my new big speakers. :)

The Pulse album cover also had a little light on it which lit up in pulse-like fashion. Pretty cool!
