Elbow

Kind of a new sounding Indie band, check them out. Give me your opinions, I'm tryin to get a feel for what type of music everyone likes listening to.

Check out the feature written by Elbow and the exclusive, unseen photos of their Cuba tour at this site, http://www.steal-life.com/features/56elbow.html

Cool

IamAlejo 07-09-2004 08:12 PM

Thanks...I hadn't seen that before. Defenitely a cool find.

I love Elbow. They're creative outside of their music, too. They named the characters on their album Elle and Bo! Would like to see them play live, but haven't had the opportunity.

Say...I just found this site & it's great!

i like one of their tunes, i think it is really good. its called fugitive motel, i have the album that is on, but aint really listened to it that much.

cloudwalrus 09-21-2005 05:54 AM

First two albums are great. Not convinced yet by the third album.Great live act though.

arabella 10-02-2005 05:50 AM

elbow are great, eveyone knows that. Cast of thousands is an amzing album, lots of lovely songs. The new album opens immensely and the rest is good too but doesn't live up to that one. Fugitive motel is a good song, that's the first one i heard by them i think, on a free cd with a newspaper, also had belle and sebastian on ! On cast of thousands i very much like fallen angel

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-02-2005 07:10 AM

Download their cover of Independant Women Pt 2 by Destiny`s Child

:laughing::thumb:

arabella 10-02-2005 07:41 AM

that sounds like it would be as good as mull historical society's version of it takes more by ms dynamite

i dig elbow, their like a better, edgier, more creative version of coldplay. new album leaders of the free world owns, a lot more pop orientated than the first with the songs sounding a lot more within the mainstream, but guy writes some pretty good lyrics.

Agreed, it's a thing of Northern Beauty. Accordions and glockenspiels, brilliant.

Imonlydancing 11-19-2005 05:31 AM

I'm not too keen on Elbow.
I have a CD of theirs.
'Cast of thousands' is it?
Or something like that.
They played in my town years back before anyone heard of them.
I didn't go.
Tooo youngg.

I'm kind of obsessed with The Seldom Seen Kid right now.

Rentabusmic 03-04-2011 03:50 PM

Anybody heard the new album?

TheBig3 05-22-2011 06:48 AM

Just heard "grounds for divorce" last night...****ing incredible.

Heh, that's not even the best song on The Seldom Seen Kid. Sure, it's got the rock anthem feel to it, but I'd say One Day Like This and Mirrorball impressed me more.

TheBig3 05-22-2011 09:40 PM

the first time I've heard of the band was last night. I don't think I should be knee deep in deep cuts yet.

Paedantic Basterd 05-22-2011 09:41 PM

Grounds For Divorce is a great fucking song. One of my favourites.

Mykonos 05-23-2011 12:34 AM

It's a tune for sure. Have you heard 'Coming Second' from their first album? It's quite similar, although not quite as good. It's still worth checking out though.

Mykonos 06-25-2011 02:47 PM

I managed to watch about 20 minutes of their Glastonbury performance. They hit a few off notes on Neat Little Rows and I think thy were better when I saw them live, but they were great anyway.

The Final Track 07-02-2011 03:09 PM

I love Elbow, they're my first priority to see live this summer. Leaders Of The Free World is my favorite album. New album is good, they don't really let down.

Mykonos 07-02-2011 04:08 PM

They're great live, well worth seeing. Guy's full of these charming little quirks and ideas on stage. My fondest memory was probably when they all decided to pour themselves martinis in the middle of the performance from a secret compartment in Craig's piano, then offered one to an audience member. Then played an entirely rhythmic version of Weather To Fly while drinking them. The only group that's impressed me more were the Arcade Fire, and that's mainly because they're the freaking Arcade Fire man.

The Final Track 07-02-2011 04:24 PM

I love them for exactly small things like that! They're really charming guys. I've seen them live, a long time ago, opening for Coldplay. When did you see them? I think I remember hearing about this unless they've done it more than once.

Mykonos 07-02-2011 04:37 PM

I saw them in late March this year. It was at the NIA, which for those lucky enough to be unfamiliar with the West Midlands is one of the biggest arenas in the area. Getting an atmosphere in a venue that size isn't easy, but they managed to do it. They were also supported by Villagers, who I really need to check out properly.

The Final Track 07-03-2011 03:30 AM

Yeah, that's what I thought. Villagers are great, I love Becoming A Jackal

I was at that show. Villagers were just as good as Elbow were, and I went home with Becoming a Jackal.

charkoustic 07-10-2011 09:57 PM

They need to make it a little easier for us blokes in the States to get their new vinyl release. :(

The Final Track 07-11-2011 09:11 PM

They need to announce a live date in Norway, is what they need to do.

Mykonos 07-14-2011 02:54 AM

This. As much as I'd like to try it, I think the nearest pub selling it is in Staffordshire or something.

Paedantic Basterd 07-14-2011 11:12 AM

I saw that, but they struck me as more of a wine band, so I'm not sure I feel it.

Mykonos 07-14-2011 01:02 PM

Ooh no, I don't think I could see anybody from any city above Birmingham as a wine person. Mancs and strong ale I can understand.

The Final Track 10-12-2011 02:26 PM

Leaders of the Free World is my favorite.

Seeing them in one month in Copenhagen :D

Mark Will 02-02-2012 02:38 AM

Haven't listened Elbow that much, but after reading this thread listened whole morning. Nice band!

The Final Track 02-10-2012 03:59 AM

Any favorites? :)
