Has this been the best couple years for Independent music in decades? Here is a list of some of my favorites but there are WAY too many to list. I like this message board and this is my first post so I thought i'd help contribute if there are folks who aren't familiar with these bands and records.
Ty Segall- Emotional Mugger Parquet Courts- Human Performance Death Valley Girls- Glow in the Dark Death Grips- Bottomless Pit Le Butcherettes- A Raw Youth Black Mountain- IV Thee Oh Sees- Mutilator Defeated at Last Tyler, The Creator- Cherry Bomb The Shrine- Rare Breed Fuzz- II Savages- Both Albums Ariel Pink - Pom Pom Joey Bada$$- B4.DA.$$ Shannon and the Clams- Gone by the Dawn Run The Jewels- 2 Destruction Unit- Negative Feedback Resistor |
|
Good album choices, even though i wasn't really a big of fan of Cherry Bomb the first couple weeks it came out, it starting to grow on me right now.
Shannon and the Clams are also very enjoyable and fun. But one album on this list i don't like that much is Adore Life by Savages. You liked the album? I thought it was a bit boring a lot of times. |
DRIVE BLIND

Been spinning Margaret Glaspy's 'Emotions and Math' LP a lot lately. Has a lot of old Marcy Playground-esque grunge with a fantastic voice.

'Indie' is **** now.
This? This is (still) good though: Belle and Sebastian - Put the Book Back On the Shelf |
Well, I don't know if they're indie or not.
They're poppy, write their own stuff, play their own instruments, and their 2nd album is coming out in a couple of weeks. I don't know if being sisters has anything to do with it, but their harmonies have an organic quality I liked the first time I heard them. |
I don't even know what indie is anymore.
It's not defined by being independent, because that would make it every genre in existence (unless you we consider corporate pop a genre). So is the official definition these days that it's something involving twee vocals and a feeling of the music being very 'white' and 'suburban'? |
Oops. Posted in the wrong damn thread. What have I been listening to lately? Algiers, Black Marble, Death & Vanilla, Vanishing Twin, Beautify Junkyards, the Soundcarriers.
|
The xx - I See You
|
Wilco - Via Chicago
I dig this indie-feel good crap. |
