In my opinion it's not that great unfortunately. Many tracks on this album have a "retro synth" vibe that reminds me a lot of mid 80’s Mtv.
So basically gone are the garage rock influences of their early work and instead we have tunes more reminiscent to bands like “A-Ha” and “Hall and Oates”.
Which is not bad thing in itself but in this case what comes out of “Comedown Machine” are half baked ideas and unfocused songs.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I think the band was going for this type of sound on Angles, but wasn't in the right place to produce it, after the long break and tension between members. Some of the songs on Angles sounded half-baked; this album sounds like it was made with greater care and focus. There's not a bad track on it in my opinion. It's also coherent, which Angles was not.

I can see why people would be disappointed in the change of sound. It's not the garage rock of the early days (except for All The Time and 50/50), but The Strokes have been headed in this direction ever since First Impressions of Earth. This is where those efforts have culminated, and the result is their best album since Room On Fire.

Currently, my favorite tracks are "80's Comedown Machine," "Chances," and "Call It Fate, Call It Karma."

Could there be a more boring band. I'll end it on that. And that I like All the time.

Not a hardcore strokes fan (I'm not a hardcore fan of any band in fact) so i guess I don't mind a little style change.

I've never really got into their stuff to be honest, so probably not going to listen to it.

I actually really like this album. I feel like they got a little more experimental on this one than they have in the past. One toe in the My Morning Jacket water, if you will.

The Strokes to me (generally speaking here, not just in reference to CDM) are a solid band. They don't make blow-away albums, but their output is consistent. A band I'd love to see in concert honestly. Each album has a few tracks I really loved.

If anyone wants to make a best-of on Spotify, please send it my way, I'd love to hear deep-cuts you guys like.

Yeah, I quite like this album too.
I may be in the minority here, but I think they've got better as they've aged.
To me Is This It is a pretty basic album where everything just sounds the same. Okay, it works but The Strokes are capable of more and they've proven it since.

It's building on from what Angles set up and I found it much more textured and interesting than their early work. I especially liked the last song. Sorry my opinion's not too thorough, I've only listened once but I'm happy with what I've heard.

It's a solid album with some catchy songs and good pop riffs and some experimental crap thrown in, but pretty unspectacular. Some of it just sounds like Casablancas singing like Justin Hawkins whilst playing some 1980s japanese video game. Strangely enough, I don't hate it as much as I would have thought.

It's better than Angels too.

I've seen the Strokes live, they certainly do put on a great show and their crowds are always lively and there for a good time. I liked a few cuts from the new album. I wouldn't call it one of their best, but it certainly isnt a huge stray from what they're known for. I think most bands that play similar time measures, try to expand on their rhythym and that causes their sound to change. The Strokes strayed on a few songs on this record which i didn't particularly enjoy but overall its decent enough for a listen now and again.
