Coldplay- X&Y

ok, a lot of people dislike the band but i for one was looking forward to the new album. like the with the white stripes album- i cant help but feel critics were influenced by the reputation of the band when dishing out superlatives such as "greatest album of the decade" and "a masterpiece". its good. not brilliant but good. while songs like "what if", "X&Y", "twisted logic" and "talk" are great songs, to me the album as a whole just sounds quite....i dunno..similiar. it all sounds the same. been a bit underwhelmed by the "hottest albums of the year". im praying the nine black alps debut makes up for it.

shandapanda 06-06-2005 03:26 PM

the critics annoy the heck out of me. for a whole year i had to hear that beyonce's album was the best album of the spring, summer autumn, winter and then the whole freakin' year! then they'll play that commercial back to back with another artist but using exactly the same lines......what about 'fix you' i thought that was a great album too.

by the way i tried getting some nine black alps and i got some wierd black metal stuff. is that them? what do they sound like?

Sneer 06-06-2005 03:30 PM

a throw back to the days of grunge. not black metal at all. check em out here.
Nine Black Alps Site
go to videos. got two of their singles.

adidasss 06-06-2005 03:40 PM

well stu i haven't gotten the x&y yet but you said yourself you liked coldplay but you're not a massive fan....so i guessing this album is just as good as the previous ones...and my i remind you that the previous album was also not absofuckinlutley briliant..it was just really good and had a couple of standout ,briliant tracks...judging by the speed of sound i'd say i'm gonna get my money's worth ( i acctualy didn't really like in my place that much and it was their first single from AROBTTH...so....)

shandapanda 06-06-2005 03:40 PM

good music.reminds me of something but can't remember, like i've heard it before.it probably came on in the background while i was doing homework or something...thanks for the link. could you recommend any songs? i know ask this a lot but i love listening to new bands...
and i meant fix you as a song, not album as i mentioned earlier

Tommyrocker 06-06-2005 03:44 PM

i like parachutes a tad better...a bit more consistent...funny story...i downloaded it and for about a year i was listening to a wrong "version" of the song parachutes...when i bought the album i realised that i was acctualy listening to Guster - parachutes!!! and the worst thing about it..I ACCTUALY LIKED THE SONG!! i hated it after i found out i was duped...never heard it again, in fact i burned the cd in a bong fire whilst dancing arround it and chanting.........well no, not really...

EDGE 06-06-2005 04:23 PM

I was watching that **** on mtv last night. I love them. So much.

Yeah.

Zealious 06-06-2005 04:41 PM

At least they beat the Hip hop, rap, and pop-rock on music stations.

stu stu stu...i've just downloaded it and i have been listening to it all afternoon....it's briliant...i think it might be even better then parachutes...some people have a problem with them not changing that much, but i think their sound has changed a bit since parachutes, parachutes was more music for rainy days, whilst x&y is music for stadiums...their music has become monumental and they have become a stadium rock band, something like pink floyd....songs like talk and the speed of sound were created for a huge light show....and i like how some songs have a faster drum beat , sorta electronic, close to new order...i would like to see them develope in that direction...and although i like the slower songs too, i have a feeling they sorta feel obligated to make songs like that, anyway the obvious standout tracks for me are speed of sound, talk and hardest part, absolutley brilliant, but there seriously isn't a bad or annoying song on the album ( i really didn't like god put a smile on your face on AROBTTH )...so in short i love it!!

shandapanda 06-09-2005 06:26 PM

the song that i think stood out is 'fix you'. this album is definately more electronic. the song 'talk' started off from a Kraftwerk sample.........

knew that...brilliant track...brilliant album!

marko1892 06-12-2005 09:41 PM

I am a massive Coldplay fan (seeing them in 20 days! :D) X&Y is a good album, not fantastic just good.

I agree a lot of people hype them up way too much which im sure gets on their tits aswell. But i dont think anyone can doubt there talent. I loved Parachutes and enjoyed AROBTTH this album is so much different from Parachutes and miles off their earlier stuff. But still it is good and an enjoyable listen.

If your a coldplay fan buy it, if your more into poppy coldplay, AROBTTH is the album for you.

BreakOut 06-21-2005 05:56 PM

Hmm....It could go either way for me. I'm gonna pick up the first album, before I get this one. I know the first one is good, but I'm not so sure with this. Jury's still out, in my case.

i've heard so much about kraftwerk, but haven't gotten into listening to them......
i love coldplay!

_The_Repeats_ 07-07-2005 03:17 PM

Has anyone not heard "Fix You"? Maybe 'twas just me, but I thought it was pretty good...

EDGE 07-07-2005 03:17 PM

I love it.

_The_Repeats_ 07-07-2005 03:24 PM

Good good. Just one of those songs which you kind of stop everything you're doing to hear it for the first time. I think it's more the lyrics than the song though. "...When you're too in love to let it go, but if you never try then you'll never know...just what you're worth..." Really quite beautiful.

EDGE 07-07-2005 03:32 PM

Inddeeeed.

thank you!! everyone was rambling on about 'what if' but 'fix you' was the one i couldn't stop thinking about!!!.....

_The_Repeats_ 07-07-2005 03:48 PM

Yup, yup. 'White Shadows' Isn't too bad either. But 'Speed Of Sound' - erk!

adidasss 07-08-2005 12:54 PM

i have 3 favourite songs on the album (even though other songs are good too, not good great, still i reserve a right to have favourites ) are : talk, speed of sound, the hardest part......

The Indie Bar Kid 07-08-2005 05:36 PM

Yeah Fix You was amazing when I heard it ending Glastonbury...Little less amazing by Live 8, then by the time those bloody rich Yanks on the OC savaged it was just lost on me. Ah no its a really touching song, especially live. I despise Coldplay for what they are, but Itd be just wrong to say they dont make great music. Clocks is a classic...As for recommending Chris Martin over the four German dudes ????? WHAT??? Kraftwerk are visionary geniuses. While Coldplay stick pretty closely to the emotional stadium rock template, Kraftwerk are a band that truly push boundaries (one of the few bands that still do). How can four guys fiddling with computers (ok that sounds wrong) and synths on stage manage to be one of the best live bands in the world?? Only Bavaria knows!

Oh yeah and White Shadows is FANTASTIC...but that one about his wife MAYBE POSSIBLY someday leaving him. thats just moany crap...Get over it Chris she was outta yer league anyway

Sweet Jane 07-11-2005 12:11 PM

I finally listened to it. I still think they're boring. At least I tried. :)

wolf-girl 07-11-2005 12:32 PM

no - fix you is so good - and a bit sad, sends the shivers down one's spine - its the kind of song that you know will be in movies for years to come, i don't mind speed of sound but the rest - dull *yawn*
