New Underground Music

So I wanted to share with you guys some of the new local music that has been floating around my area. Being from Athens, GA I have a lot to choose from. I feel like my town is a hub for new types of alternative sounds that often go unnoticed.

New Madrid has been a favorite new band of mine that I have been listening to recently. Their album Yardboat was produced by David Barbe who also produced a lot of The Drive-By Truckers discography, as well as Deerhunter and Atlas Sound.

Another band that needs more exposure is Universal Sigh. They are a new jam band that has the talent of a seasoned live act and the majority of them are only sophomores in college. They are really talented musicians that deserve acclaim. Check them out here they can really jam.

This is an original of theirs that leads into Miss Tinkle's Overture, a popular song by Umphrey's Mcgee

What are some other good underground acts that need more exposure in your region? I would love to hear more about them.

Well what kinda stuff are you looking for? Here is some new stuff that I've been listening to a lot recently.

This Vermont band Twiddle has been getting more attention recently and I think they're sound is a unique blend of reggae and funk among others. I really dig this song.

Another really good band that I've been feeling alot is Ultraviolet Hippopotamus They're from Michigan and are known to have really great live shows. They've been around a couple years and are starting to build a bigger following on the festival circuit.
