DJs in Alternative Bands?

So I was wondering what you all thought about the emergence of DJs in alterntive bands. Nothing new I guess but it's starting to be a more prominent sound in alternative music and in my mind almost starting to be required instrument. Any comments?

Yeah, i've noticed that too. Although i can't recall any other bands who do this except linkin park. any others who do this?

Well I don't know if these all fall under Alternative but like Limp Bizkit, Sugar Ray, HedPE, Incubus... there are probably others but with Crystal Method remixing just about any alternative song that comes out on mainstream radio... I'm really getting used to and liking the sound.

I wanna look more at their purpose... for a different sound? or a different market?

I don't wanna sound like I'm hung up on commercialisation of music, but I think it needs to be considered, especially with bands like Linkin P and Limp B

Oh, you're talking about those kinds of DJs? I thought you were talking about NORMAN COOK a.k.a. FATBOY SLIM, who was the former bass guitarist for UK band, THE HOUSEMARTINS. My bad...
