Ride

I actually couldn't find a Ride thread on MB, weird.

Looks like they've followed in the wake of MBV and Slowdive and announced a reunion with dates next year.

And for those of you who are unfamiliar with them, here's some tunes:

Two results here. Beady Eye are no more and Ride are here again.

Lovely.

I'm actually planning on attending Primavera Sound next year so pretty damn excited to see this reunion. Nowhere is one of the greatest shoe gaze albums.

My actual favorite band from 1990/1991. I'm not at all interested in a reunion though, that's a not funny joke. Ride is not for 2015.

I don't think that their music has aged as well as My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive but their reformation is welcome none the less. I could see it coming so it was no surprise to me really.

A question for you guys. Who do you think has been more influential, Ride or Slowdive? I'm trying to settle a little discussion with somebody.

You have to take geography into account. In this country, I'd say Ride are much more influential - not sure what it's like overseas.

I'm going with Ride, but that's only because they were a lot more popular among people I knew personally (Americans). I didn't have an internet in 1991.

Web people and real people I meet now seem to appreciate Slowdive more. I always assume it's because they didn't experience the joy of hearing Smile and Nowhere when those were new. Slowdive was/is easier listening.

i would have to go with ride also....and pretty much for the same reasons as engine

all of those Creation albums that came out in the early 90s had such a major...and lasting effect on my musical taste....but i would put Nowhere on a top ten of all time

I think because Ride became so synonomous with Britpop due to Beady Eye and all, that I always considered them a British thing. Nice to see otherwise.
I think Slowdive represent a different side of the coin, probably influencing more of the dream poppy bands of today than the straight up Shoegaze ones.
