Default Young alternative bands?

Never heard any on TV, and rarely on the radio outside of occasional BBC airplay, but what would some examples be of young indie/alternative bands at the moment? I can't name any where the members are younger than 25. My dad's mentioned one or two to me, but they generally receive very little attention so the name of the band fades and I forget. What are some young examples which sound anywhere in the region of The Smiths, Nirvana, REM, Husker Du, U2 or Joy Division? Do many exist, or do young people now dislike these sounds, causing fewer new bands like these? If you can think of any recent examples from the UK or America like the ones mentioned by me, please can you give details below...

Gengahr comes to mind but I'm not really sure how young they are.
