Thats probably my least favourite Eels album
But it`s still better than what most bands come out with. |

Drink of water boss? Have a drink. Permission to belittle boss? Go ahead. I like the eels before they were cool. :P |
I found Shootenanny to be a dissapointing album and I've only heard some tracks off Blinking Lights but I wasn't that impressed. It seems that E has gotten a bit shmaltzy in his old age.
Beautiful Freak, Electro-Shock Blues, Daisies of the Galaxy and to a certain extent, Souljacker, are all great albums. |
Yeah there great
Saw E about a month ago. The previous time I'd seen them was just after Electro-Shock came out, and he got in a hissy fit about people calling out for Novocane, and of course he didn't play it, and out of spite I guess he didn't play most of the other stuff from Beautiful Freak. Worst gig I'd been to.
But last month he redeemed himself totally. Absolutely awesome show, with a flawless group of musicians backing him. |
Haha, apparantly I look identical to the freaky chick on the cover of one of their albums when I make my wide-eyed messing around face!
Beutiful Freak?...... AHHH f*ck, that things scarey like a mother f*cker
bump
I love Eels, plain awesome. Beautiful Freak is my favorite album. |
yeh i think they r great as well. i been listening to "hey man" when im riding my bmx along the beach when im about to go out in the boats or go swimming, definatly A GOOD SUMMER SONG!!
One of my favourite bands, and i only heard about them about 2 months ago.
Electro-Shock Blues = One of the greatest most underrated beautiful pieces of art ever made. And Novocaine For The Soul is one of my favourite singles ever. |
Beautiful Freak is spectacular, I just got recommended it.
I got their Shootenanny! album yesterday. I haven't had time to listen to it yet. I've got mixed feelings over their new album. It's like trying to labour my way though Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness again.
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness... what a work of art... |

Beautiful Freak is a great album, but Daisies Of The Galaxy has to be my favourite. Although their latest one was good, but I forgot the name. I went to see them once, with strings, they were ace. |
Eels are AMAZING.
Daisies Of The Galaxy is truly fantastic. Beautiful Freak is great as well. *sighs* |
I have loved pretty much everything I have ever heard by Eels, although I have to say Shootenany was a bit of a crap one...personal favorite is Electro Shock Blues...
My mate should hopefully be interviewing E! Get in!
I saw them at a festival the summer of 2000 after the release of daisies of the galaxy .. It was a good concert, really charming. While I liked daisies, I grew incredibly tired of it because we used to play it a lot in the cafè where I worked, so I never actually got into any other Eel albums. I still have others such as electroshock blues in my collection, they've just been on my to-do list for a really long time. Any recommended tracks from that one?
Electro-shock Blues is their best i'd say, highlights for me would be Cancer For The Cure, Last Stop: This Town, 3 Speed and P.S You Rock My World. It's one of those albums that should be digested as a whole though i'd say.
Anyone mind uploading some high quality albums or pointing a brotha in the right direction? Demonoid seems to be packed with shitty and/or incomplete releases...
Anybody able to up Electro-Shock Blues i dont have it, surprisingly. Beautiful Freak is great though.
I can sort that out dude
Hehehehehe... cool to see the beard is back! Thought that was a cool look around the Souljacker era... so, pardon me for my out of the loopness, but have the Eels only had one new album since Blinking Lights? So behind on some bands these days...
There was the Live at Town Hall album and DVD. They also released a best-of and a b-sides/rarities package.
My experience with Eels is pretty limited - I've only ever heard Novocaine For the Soul and a mate played me some bootleg of theirs once. I take it Beautiful Freak's the best bet as a starting point?

The Eels are an amazing band! Beautiful Freak would have to be my favorite album. Susan's House, You're Lucky Day in Hell, Last Stop: My Town, Novocaine, and I Like Birds are the best songs; if you haven't heard any of them listen to them NOW!
I know most prefer their earlier stuff, but I really have a soft spot for Blinking Lights... I thought it was a cleverly written, often moving double album, and just as worthy as anything else in the Eels canon....
I have half of Beautiful freak and Daisies of the galaxy. So far I'm not impressed, especially with the latter...:\
I never understood what all the hype was around Novacaine--it was a rather boring. But, 'My Beloved Monster' was incredible. If you really sit down and listen to the lyrics, they are ingenous.
Electro-shock blues is also a great CD that I've been meaning to go out and buy. :\ |
The Eels do kinda have a subdued brilliance to them.... you gotta hear their stuff a few times before it all really sinks in sometimes...I didn't get alot of their music, I admit until the third or fourth listen....
I just got Electro-Shock Blues and love it. Anything else I should check out?
Seriously, anything by them with the exception of maybe Shootenanny! is really great stuff. Shootenanny! was just a bit too plain jane rock for my liking.
My order of liking:
Electro-Shock Blues Beautiful Freak Souljacker Blinking Lights Daisies of the Galaxy Shootenanny! |
Electro-Shock Blues is my personal favourite, the second half of the album is utterly brilliant.
