If you like them so much you would want them to change their sound a bit and experiment from an artistic/unique view. Yes they went more mainstream and into gained more fans. I'm pretty sure their next album won't sound exactly the same as Only by the Night.

I don't feel like they were experimenting or expanding their sound or anything like that. I feel like they were really just trying to get a bigger audience and creating songs that would appeal to the public and that's not what playing music is all about. I guess I'm glad for their success, and I'm still hearing "Use Somebody" on the radio and mtv sometimes which is good for them.

i like them, i like them alot.
only thing is i also feel they have went too mainstream. to the point where there songs are getting played out. and everytime i hear 'sex on fire' i feel sick cos ive heard it so much in such a short period of time. if their songs wernt played as much i would like double as much .

I really do not like the term "mainstream" and I don't understand it at all. Maybe thats why I don't like it.

If you like a band and support them and than hate the fact that they are now popular, something I'm positive they've wanted there whole life, it seems to be more about being "cool" and less about the music.

Every bands sound changes in time. Regardless of fame and all that.

its not that i hate the fact they have went mainstream i dont hate mainstream bands atall, i just hate when radio stations out play songs as such as killers - human got played far too much, lady gagas - just dance also. thats what i dont like about mainstream, i still like the band i just dont like that whatever song they come up with, couple of weeks down the line everywhere i go is playing it .

Every band has the right to get famous, but it's when you change your sound JUST to get the major publicity that sucks.

I'm sure someone has pointed this out already but:

After the release of their debut, Youth and Young Manhood

Oh, theres no doubt they've changed. A good buddy of mine always talks about how they've drifted away from what he first liked about them.

What makes you think that this change wasn't something they wanted to do for themselves rather than just for the publicity. Maybe they enjoy the type of music that they made for "Only By The Night". I know as I age my taste in music changes.

I find that decision stupid.
Their just dumbing it down instead of expanding their sound.

Sure. I just would rather have their music evolve than become poppy and generic like everything else.
