By way of introduction...

Hi everyone. I came across this place while dipping my toes in the water at various music forums. The water feels quite warm here!

Music is very important to me and my preferred genre is 'indie rock'. Being of middle age, I have a great love of some older rock bands a la Zep (who I saw live in Manchester in the 1970's), Bowie and REM. I'm currently into bands such as The Flaming Lips, Grandaddy (RIP:( ), Death Cab For Cutie, The Arcade Fire, The Postal Service, Of Montreal, Wolf Parade etc. etc.. Incidentally, regardless of your preferred musical style, it's worth seeing a Lips concert just to witness Wayne Coyne's on-stage antics!!

Being open with you all, I hold the rôle of administrator on another music forum. My aim here is initially and principally to make new friends, discover new music and enjoy a new community, but with the consent of the site owner/ admin staff, I admit to seeking some cross pollination in the future.

That's it for now, I'm going off to roam your boards.

Cheers,

db. :)

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-13-2006 11:11 AM

riseagainstrocks 08-13-2006 06:58 PM

Welcome dogbreath1

enjoy your (hopefully long) stay at MusicBanter. You're correct about the median age here being about 16 or so (i would say average, but right-track and jr. throw it off!), but we for the most part are an open community and ready to discover more diverse music!

explosions-in-my-pants 08-13-2006 07:05 PM

Urban -late 28ish
Right- Track - 35 ish
Jr. around 40ish i think
Yourself
and
Murder Junkie - 31 or somthing
Big3 - 23ish
are the oldest people here now I think..

i'm really unsure about people's ages here..

then there's like 3 or 4 girls here that are all the same age.. 19, or will be 19 in a month or so.

then after that there all 16 and under.. I think SEB is the youngest which is almost 13.. but I don't know for sure if there are younger.

DearJenny 08-13-2006 07:19 PM

^just so you know, I'm 17, almost 18 I guess, like two months away.

Anyway, wecome to the camp! Dont let anyone push you around. I like your music tastes as well. Death Cab for Cutie, yay! I was into Grandaddy for like a few days then I drifted away quickly. Some other band stole ALL my attention.

Have fun, stay active, dont be a fool wrap your tool, all that jazz.

well I just went by general ageas around here.. I would imagine there's not many your age here so I went with 16 and under mostly.. so.. I'm sure it wasn't that hard to see the point I was getting at..

Merkaba 08-13-2006 09:58 PM

Hello and Welcome! :)

enemyat_thesix 10-11-2006 06:39 AM

Hello. I am Harrison. I went searching for some new forums after my old ones collapsed under a wave of ignorant, carbon-copy newbs. I found this one and browsed around, content to find a variety of topics and genres being discussed.

Music is the most important thing in my life. My tastes run all across the board; one minute I could be listening to Suicide Silence, the next, Ulrich Schnauss. (see my Last.fm, although it's not entirely accurate due to my account also being active on my brother's PC. You can credit all the Fall of Troy and Dredg to him.)

Overall though, post-rock, post-metal, and shoegaze are my favorite genres. My single favorite band is Say Hi To Your Mom.

Merkaba 10-12-2006 01:49 AM

Welcome Harrison, have seen you about, good to have you on board mate:)
