Oh Hey There

I'm new... been having a lot of trouble finding music forums that aren't terrible. Hopefully I've finally found somewhere good.

I tend to think I like a variety, I listen to death/black/thrash/drone/doom/etc metal, noise, rap, jazz (though I'm sort of a noob to it), rock, industrial, avant garde/experimental, etc.

http://last.fm/user/jesse99999 - My last.fm. It's not 100% reflective of my current tastes, but take a look if you want a better idea about what I like, and add me if you have last.fm as well.

http://rateyourmusic.com/~Jesse99999 Same goes for my RYM, look around and add me.

Also, if you want to IM me, I'm JesseJunior9999 on AIM. I have a YIM as well, but I rarely get on it.

A few of my favorite artists in no particular order:

- Mr. Bungle
- Strapping Young Lad
- El-P
- Deltron 3030
- Wu-Tang Clan
- Broken Social Scene
- Tom Waits
- Gorguts
- Modest Mouse
- Estradasphere
- The Samuel Jackson Five
- John Coltrane
- Kaada/Patton

Many, many more.

I think that about sums it up, so proceed with the welcoming and such.

Well I think you'll find everybody here has a pretty good taste in music, and from what you've posted it seems you do too. Welcome!

Thanks. One of my biggest problems when I go to forums is just the lack of any real variety in tastes of the members there. It's all boring and the same stuff. I was a member of some message boards not long before this, but it seemed like every member liked some "entry level" indie bands, post rock, and very little else. Most of the bands weren't all that bad that they liked, but it just became boring. Plus they were all the really overrated critically acclaimed stuff (not to imply those are necessarily bad).

From what I've seen thus far, I don't think I'll have that problem here.

Welcome to MB

The bands that I bolded out are some of my favorite groups, especially SYL, Great taste in music man!

Thanks man, and great tastes yourself.

I'm assuming you're a Mike Patton fan if you like Mr. Bungle, have you heard Kaada/Patton's album?

Had to check this after your I'll Sleep when you're Dead review, and I think you'll fit in just fine. If Musicbanter has any elitist standard, it's geared towards eclectic tastes which at least keeps things interesting.

Hi, Abominable Homan,
I'm proceeding with the welcoming!:) After you welcomed *me*, I looked up your intro and saw that you like death metal, thus explaining how you must have found out about Cattle Decapitation. Thanks again for mentioning them. I know very little about death metal, other than Slipknot (from Iowa) is one such band, I believe...and usually the scary sound of the songs makes me want to hide under a table. Perhaps that is the desired effect? Maybe the lyrics, like Cattle Decapitation's, are more cuddly than I thought! I will have to look over some of the death metal bands you like and find out. I hope you enjoy MB! --Erica

Just finished up reading the El-P review, I like you already.

The Abominable Homan 06-15-2009 08:53 PM

Well technically I believe Cattle Decapitation is considered goregrind (I haven't actually listened yet so I can't say with certainty), but it doesn't really matter that much. A lot of the sub genres get a little too crazy.

Also for those of us too serious about our genres, Slipknot is probably nu-metal, but whatever. I personally can't stand them =P.

Do you like any metal in the first place? I could recommend some death metal, but if you don't listen to metal it's probably going to be too abrasive to immediately jump into.

And thank you very much dreadnaught. For whatever reason I'm not completely satisfied with the review as a piece of writing, but I think I at least conveyed the message I wanted and may hopefully help some people find new great music.

Just as a side note, I'd like to say that thus far I'm enjoying the site. My only small complaint is that the large amount of genre boards are a bit intimidating for a newcomer (especially since the site is fairly fast and active at times), but hopefully this will be less of a problem as my time spent here increases.
