Wassup?

OK, my thread title is a lame attempt at coming across as somehow cool, I'll admit...

I don't know if I'm cool or not and frankly, life is too short to care.

But I do like music a great deal - some might say too much, to which I respond "Pshaw!".

I've been around for a week or so and just read the forum guidelines, hence this note, of which I've probably written enough to scare off the sort of people I don't want to talk to, convince the trolls that I'm ripe for baiting, and generally irritate everybody else.

Why use 3 words when 30 are more confusing?

:D

Welcome!

I'm impressed that you've played bass for the Ozrics - you must be pretty bloody skilled. What other bands are on your resumé?

Welcome to Musicbanter! :)

I think you'll fit right in. There's quite a lot of love for Gentle Giant around here at least and did you really play bass for Ozric Tentacles? If so, that's too cool for school right there!

Yup, I really once played bass for the Ozrics - just the once, mind!

It was one of those things - I was due to play a gig with a band and they didn't show.

There I was, armed with my bass, at the gig, capacity audience, all psyched up and ready to play and no band to play with - man, I HAD to play, so I asked Ed if it was cool for me to get up on stage and jam with the guys, and he agreed.

It was a real rush for me - even though in 1984, the Ozrics were still pretty much unheard of outside of the underground circuits. I used to see them supporting the likes of The Magic Mushroom Band, Here & Now, Gong, etc, which was the same circuit my band played on. We were called Original Gravity - you won't have heard of us, or any other band I've played for.

I've been playing bass a long time, but my skills have hardly moved on at all. You can hear some of my stuff on my MySpace page, but I play ALL guitars, so I'm a bit of a Jack of all skills, rather than master of any of them.

I did once jam with Gary Moore (ex Skid Row, Colosseum II, Thin Lizzy, etc), and fix Barrie Barlowe's PC while he was doing his drum practice, had Dan Carter (Radio 1 Rock DJ) as my band's photographer before he found fame - and a few other minor claims, but nothing serious.

/me makes note to hunt for a "claims to fame" thread...

Wow, I'm impressed! Those are some good stories there :D

I have friends who have similar stories, but I don't have any of my own save for giving a norwegian rap artist the finger on national TV .. but then I was sorta standing in the background, a bit hard to see, the guy was talking and the cameraman was trying to get me out of the picture.

One day, though. One day!

Get the fuck out!

Jealous.

Welcome aboard!

Heh - I remember when I joined up to ProgArchives, many years ago. I told that story - and of how Gary acted as my roadie (he carried my guitar from the van into my room, specifically), and a guy trumped me a million times over with a great story of how he had smoked a spliff with Bob Marley.

Can't beat that!

That's nothing I swapped genital fluids with Cheryl Cole
