hello

I figured I'd give you guys a little introduction to myself.

I am a high school band teacher, in Western Mass. I have a husband, and three sons. (Yes, I'm g*y.) I'll be 35 on monday.....I've been teaching for 12 years now, this is my 13th, and I hold 15 degrees in Education, and Music. My husband (Christian) is an EMT. Oldest son (Jeremy) plays trumpet in his band, middle son (Justin) is in the 7th grade, plays flute, and then my youngest (Bobby) is in the 2nd grade. I think that's about...

Welcome to Music Banter.
Did you have an instrument concentration?

Mojo 12-03-2009 02:42 PM

Welcome to the boards.

Arya Stark 12-03-2009 02:43 PM

Shut up, Neil.

Mojo 12-03-2009 02:46 PM

Who do you think you're talking to, woman?

Arya Stark 12-03-2009 03:02 PM

Neil.

I'm sorry...but what...?

Arya Stark 12-03-2009 03:13 PM

Is there a certain instrument you play best?
There should be, cause music education majors usually need that.

bandteacher1 12-03-2009 03:26 PM

Ah. (I'm old...cut me some slack!) Yeah, there is. I'm particularlly strong in strings and percussion. However, brass and woodwinds aren't exactly crappy. The only instrument I can't say I can truely play is bassoon. I can't make my thumbs do all that! haha. While I was in high school, I marched drum line. Bass then quads. When I got to college, I had learned to play the trumpet from my music teacher in high school. I went to UMass Amherst, and was on the trumpet line. However, when I started marching with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corp, I got switched to trombone. Does that answer your question?

Sansa Stark 12-03-2009 03:26 PM

What is g*y???

Ahh, don't say you're old! You're 35 years young!!
Percussion is beautiful. It's good to have another percussionist on the boards.
I'm mostly a marimba player.
YOU MARCHED CADETS?!
OH MY GOD. The drill writer for the cadets is my old instructor's uncle and he wrote for our band.
And the marching instructor is with the Cadets right now.
Let's be best friends. [=

Yes, I am old, haha. And yes, I did march with The Cadets. The one thing my students always call me on is that when I go to show them something about marching, I still step off with my right foot. And sure, why not? I enjoy making new friends. The first time I went to college, I majored in percussion and double bass, lol.

Sansa Stark 12-03-2009 03:34 PM

Oooh. Probably because it's been used derogatorily?

Anyway, welcome

My band started stepping off with thei right foot this year because he wants them to be like a drum corp. The Cadets, to be exact.
New friends are nice.
And you and I seem like we're going to have a lot in common.

Yes, I would think so. Thanks for the warm welcome.

So tell me, what grade are you in? And are you in the pit for marching band?

Arya Stark 12-03-2009 03:42 PM

I was in pit.
I'm a freshman in college now.

bandteacher1 12-03-2009 03:45 PM

Ah. Which college, and do you participate in their band?

Arya Stark 12-03-2009 04:55 PM

My college doesn't have a band.
My number one had a band but it was too expensive.
I don't want to be in this school's pep band. I want to march. Or be in pit.
Crash cymbals only keep my satisfied for so long.
SUNY Fredonia is the school I attend.

bandteacher1 12-03-2009 04:57 PM

Perhaps you could participate in a drum and bugle corp?

Arya Stark 12-03-2009 05:11 PM

That's what I was thinking. I hope I have the time! [=

bandteacher1 12-03-2009 05:14 PM

I hope so too. They're so much fun. I'll be back soon. I gotta figure out when the play off games are, so I can tell the band, ha.

Arya Stark 12-03-2009 05:57 PM

That's fineee. ^_^

Welcome to Music Banter.

Check out Free sheet music on 8notes.com it has forums based on instruments, if there is anything you have a question about an instrument it has have musicians that could discuss it with you. (I hope you don't mind me recommending it to you.)

bandteacher1 12-06-2009 08:53 AM

Um...thanks? I use that site on occasion, when I can't actually remember something. There's only about 3 million things I'm asked to remember on a daily basis, lol.
