I'm new here, young, and need advice(:
Hello, I am a fourteen year old girl living in Alabama, USA.
Before I could write, I was writing. I would ask my mom to write for me, as I would tell her the words to my elaborate stories. I also made up my own songs and sang them. They were pretty good for a three year old. When I was about seven, I really started writing lyrics. I never showed anyone any of them. No one knows I write songs. At nine or ten, I took about a year of guitar lessons but quit to take dance. Now I am teaching myself guitar, piano, and voice and will start lessons soon. My parents know I can write good stories and essays. How can I tell them I like to write music? My dream is to be a singer/songwriter. My favorites are Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa, Prince, and The Beatles to name a few. Mostly MJ, I am in love with him! Hahaha ANYWAYS. How can I tell my parents? Or anyone for that matter? I am really shy and write like a song a day, but just lyrics. I want to learn. I want people to know. HELP PLEASE! |
I don't think they will be bothered? They'd be proud you had the intelligence to do so if anything.

Still don't get what's shaming you...
Anyway, I hope you're on MB to discuss music, and not just your personal problems (though we're usually here for each other), and Welcome. |

Why are you nervous to tell them? I'm sure they won't mind

it's actually pretty common for teenagers (especially creative / artistic types) to start forging their own creative path during that stage of their lives. |
Welcome.
And speaking as a parent, JUST TELL THEM! They'll be proud of you as long as you're happy. They'll be proud of you that you have the creativity to handle it. And if you're worried about their reaction(s), don't. Follow your heart, and let them know music is a passion, and they'll come around. Parents can't help but to be proud of our kids. |
