Meandering Path of Musical Conquest

Because surely it must seem as though discovering worthy music is an adventure as musical as the actual fruits of your labor. Well I am here, a prolific poster on other forums, to join your community in this joint effort.

You can call me TheManInAShed, or maybe ShedMan for short.

I look forward to our conversations!

James 05-10-2010 12:01 PM

What music do you like?

TheManInAShed 05-10-2010 12:50 PM

Fast off the trigger, James :)

As though it could be missed, my favorite artist is Nick Drake. I live and breath his music, and it speaks to me deeper than most. It touches on what I live and it takes me to places that no other artist has succeeded in.

Beyond the Great Drake, some of my favorites include
  • Josh Ritter
  • Damien Rice
  • Joni Mitchell
  • Laura Marling's latest album is fantastic
  • Noah and the Whale
  • Iron and Wine
  • Blind Melon
  • Editors
  • The New Pornographers
  • Broadcast 2000
  • The Damn Choir
  • Fionn Regan
  • The Morning Benders
  • The Radio Dept.
  • Efterklang
  • Pearl And The Beard
  • Lali Puna
  • The Postal Service
  • The Still City
  • Cedarwell
  • Joanna Newsom

You have excellent taste, sir.
Drake is a legend.
And that Laura Marling album is probably my favourite of this year so far truly excellent,
So get posting.
Welcome.

TheManInAShed 05-10-2010 01:57 PM

She truly has become great with her latest album, imho of course. I've written what I think of her here:

(the reason for my masking the link is that I get this error, which is an error in and of itself: You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more.)

And thank you for the warm welcome :)

Mojo 05-10-2010 02:31 PM

Ive been meaning to check out that Laura Marling album. Ive only heard a single from it but it wasnt too bad.

Welcome to the boards.

Mojo 05-10-2010 02:58 PM

Sorry but had to delete that. We cant post any download links on the boards im afraid.

TheManInAShed 05-10-2010 03:02 PM

Hm, interesting that you are not distinguished as a mod.

Good to know for the future.

TheManInAShed 05-10-2010 03:04 PM

That is, good to know I cannot post links to torrents, etc. Not that you are a mod. Haha, what a great introduction to authorities.

khfreek 05-10-2010 03:06 PM

dude, no forum that is worth a shit allows people to post download links in public, we use private messages for that

plus torrents suck

1) Skirting legalities is always fun.

2) What do you use?

khfreek 05-10-2010 03:14 PM

We pretty much all use mediafire or megaupload, preferrably the former.

Do you have a lastfm account? they're pretty fun to track what you listen to with and get more recommendations.

My problem with megaupload and the sort is the lack of a comment section. Admittedly the download speed does tend to be faster, but with 500kb/s being about my average with a standard torrent, I don't have too much to complain about.

And no, I don't have a lastfm account, but I will certainly look into it. I've had luck with a movie recommendation website called "Criticker", so perhaps this is relevant to my interests.

Thanks.

I wonder, what software do you use to organize your music? I simply play everything through VLC, however there isn't support for VLC through LastFM.

Dont sweat it. You know for the future. All the mods are easy to spot, all of our names are in blue.

TheManInAShed 05-10-2010 03:31 PM

Perhaps I am taking advantage of your knowledge and your time, but if you permit, can you tell me if there is any difference between MediaFire and any other P2P program, such as Kazaa, Limewire, etc.

khfreek 05-10-2010 03:35 PM

mediafire is a direct link you follow, and when you've finished downloading the file you will have a compressed file/group of files, such as an album, in .rar format. All you need is the program WinRAR and you can decompress anything you get from Mediafire into normal mp3 files.

As for what I play my music with, either Windows Media Player or itunes

TheManInAShed 05-10-2010 03:40 PM

Thanks for your time khfreek,

I have always found WMP to be a RAM hog. I usually have music playing with Lightroom, Photoshop, and Chrome open simultaneously, so my music player must be ity bity. I'll look into it.

Being my first day on this website, I must say my first impressions are overly positive. Thanks for the good vibes.

Torrents aren't that bad if you find the right hosts.
