Bonjour!

Hello!

My name is Iris, I'm 18 and I currently live in France.
I discovered this forum through Urban Dictionary (how geeky of me), and I just thought I'd look around, but it looked so great, I decided to join. :)

I didn't really get into music until I was 16, so I'm making up for that mostly by trying to listen to 2/3 new bands every day (which will probably become much easier thanks to this forum).

My favorite artists are: Arthur Russell, Brian Eno and MGMT. I also really like: of Montreal, Laurie Anderson, Animal Collective, David Bowie, Girls and The Smiths.

Hiya. I know just what you need: http://www.musicbanter.com/indie-alt...igh-bells.html (not unlike Kids by MGMT, only a whole album full of super fun tunes!).

Sentience 05-16-2010 05:41 AM

Thanks!
I've been listening to Treats for a few days now, and I still have mixed feelings about it, but the songs are indeed super fun & summery!

Welcome to Musicbanter, Iris :)

Do you like any french bands?

Welcome to MusicBanter Sentience.
A taste for Brian Eno shows me your taste is good.
And you've come to the right place for broadening your musical horizons.

I do, but I'm not a big fan of French music and hardly know anything about it really (I've only been living in France for 2 years).
But I do like out of recent years: Justice, Phoenix and Thieves Like Us.
And out of the past: Erik Satie, Serge Gainsbourg and Lizzy Mercier Descloux.

And indeed I have, I'm already learning a lot. :)

Welcome! You have good taste in music it seems. Where are you from originally?

Sentience 05-16-2010 07:10 AM

Thanks! :)

I'm actually french, but I lived in Costa Rica all my life, and consider myself from there.

We need more people that are familiar with French music. You must stay!
Welcome, or should I say "Bienvenue" (I like to show off, 'tis all)

Welcome, Iris!

I also like MGMT and enjoyed seeing them perform last year in Iowa. And I love Erik Satie's music that I've heard, such as his most famous piano piece, Gymnopedie (No. 1). I hope you'll continue to enjoy expanding your musical tastes here at MB!

Eric Satie is just amazing. I hope to have the chance to study his life and music in a future class.

^ Enki Bilal! I read the Nikopol trilogy some years ago, it's great.

Erik Satie is indeed amazing and Gymnopedie n1 is the song I wake up to every morning because I love it so much!

And thanks for the warm welcome :)
