ARE YOU READY TO ROCK! *cues Hello There by Cheap Trick*

Ah, now that I got some good old rock in me, I suppose I'll introduce myself. My name is Zal(short form for Zalfor), a 20-year old musician of sorts, with my main interests being electric guitar(thank god for cheap Chinese ripoffs) and singing in my falsetto voice to any and all of the gifted vocalists of our time. Music has always been my one and only addiction, something I've never been able to live without on a daily basis to remind me that life is here, life is worth living, and beauty is all around us. That is me is also what music is, something that is an essence of basic human nature that pleasures all our senses at once and makes us feel alive or dead inside. It all depends on your state of mind.

Other than music though, I'm a Canadian university student learning Mechanical Engineering. You would think that with an addiction as strong as I have I would've went into music, but I'd rather know less about my styles than knowing fully my talents or how much better then musicians are than me. I'm not in music to have a competition after all or get a degree, I'm just in it to have some fun and learn slowly along the way. Also, I never truly grasped the reasoning behind going to music university, most of the major artists(who don't have music majors) get songwriters and other composers to create the lyrics, rhythm and beats for all their songs. Those are the people you see raking in the cash while the guy with the music degree is writing the most beautiful lyrical delight you will never hear because it will never be picked up into the mainstream.

Oh boy, I'm running long here. Oh well, if you've read this long, I thank you. I hope I can be a useful contributor to this forum ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have numerous favorite artists that I listen to all the time depending on my mood, here are but a few: Queen, AC/DC, Max Webster(or Kim Mitchell), Pink Floyd, Pat Travers, Nazareth, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Gorillaz, Electric Light Orchestra, Coldplay, Big Sugar, Primus, oh dear god the list goes on. These are mainly when I'm feeling a rock-mood, for dance I enjoy Cascada, Little Boots, The Ting-Tings, The Waldoes, Refresh, Darude, Deadmau5, Kid Cudi, No Doubt/Gwen Stefani, Daft Punk, David Guetta, 2 Unlimited, Ace Of Base, and like I said before, the list goes on. I just can't pick one, I love them all too much to pick. I probably know more Queen and Led Zeppelin songs than any of the others though.

Quite the list you've got there, I can't say I agree with all of them (most of them if I'm honest) but welcome nonetheless.

Well, there's enough music out there for everyone's different tastes. I know the majority of the artists I listed are mainstream pop acts that may be too overrated for their own good but I try to listen to as many different songs as I can. Hell, some artists I find only play one good song here and there and the rest is complete pomegranate. Then again, I also find the most obscure artists that have an entire collection of good song after good song. It's all about experimentation to me ;)

If you find an artist who you think only have one good song, they're shit. I judge artists based on full LPs.
I like a bit of Queen and Led Zeppelin every now and again, I used to be really into them but I don't listen to them much anymore.

Cheap Trick! Cheap Trick! Yeay! I had never heard "Hello There" before your post made me look it up. "Ain't that a shame" I overlooked the song for so long?

I agree with you very much about the personal impact of music. I also feel music fundamentally is not (or should not be) about competition but instead is about expression and emotional communication. I hope you'll enjoy the site!
