I'm Sara

...and don't let my fandom of Trey Anastasio and Phish be off-putting in the slightest; I'm actually quite fond of bathing.

I listen to all sorts of music, and find it enriching and entertaining to converse with everyone I meet about their particular musical tastes - a lot of times I'm familiar with the bands they discuss, but when I'm not, I've got new music to check out!

When I'm not listening to music, I'm generally acting, directing, and / or writing plays. I'm also a fan of playing music - I'm decent at drums, learning guitar, learning piano / keyboard, and interested in theremin to a borderline unhealthy degree. My strongest instrument, however, is French Horn. Unfortunately, there's not much demand for it in popular music, and there's not much of a classical music following in my area.

I'm also a fan of purchasing shoes, camping, and taking random walks at 2 in the morning.

Welcome to MB! I actually work with a guy who's a huge phish fan! And he always raves how amazing their concerts are, so I'm wondering if you've ever been to any?

Hope you enjoy your stay! :)

Thanks for the welcome!

And yes, I've been to a lot of Phish shows, but all since their reunion, unfortunately. Wasn't allowed to see them live when I was in high school as my mother thought that the environment would be unsavory or something. I've had some great experiences at their shows, and met a lot of people in the Phish organization through them. It's a great time!

That's good to hear! So, what are some of your other favourite bands?

ThePhanastasio 09-19-2010 09:00 AM

A little bit of everything, really! Some that I listen to an inordinate amount: Queen, The Grateful Dead, Moby Grape, The Electric Prunes, The Talking Heads, The Arcade Fire, CocoRosie, Hawkwind, Richard Thompson, John Fahey, Gov't Mule, Leonard Cohen, The Beau Brummels, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Soft Machine, System of a Down, The Sound of Animals Fighting, Trey Anastasio, M. Ward, Elliott Smith, Jeff Buckley, Oysterhead, Donovan, and Heldon.

All of you Queen fans come on out of the closet. Guilty! I love Queen to death, I grew up with them and they will never leave me. A Night At the Opera is one of the greatest albums ever created.

The rest of your list is a fascinating combination as well – there's nothing nicer than seeing the particulars of people's collections. Life's endlessly beautiful diversity in action or something.

As you mention the Electric Prunes, are you familiar with David Axelrod's work? He produced some of their finest work. If not, check out Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience.
