Ho-yo-yo

New. Dunno what to say. Short intro is short, so questions and whatnot, fire away.

Dayvan Cowboy 11-02-2010 04:30 PM

so, what kind of music are you into?
What are your favourite bands?
Is trololololololo your idol?

Popsicle Season 11-02-2010 05:35 PM

Dang, someone actually asked something...

I'm into almost all forms of music. Except (most) pop, hip-hop, reggae, and rap.
What are my favorite bands..? In Fear & Faith.
And, no, Trolololo is not my idol. I just love the phrase 'trolololo'. Dr. Cox is my idol.

Hottietoo 11-02-2010 06:34 PM

So I'm new here, what r some tips 2 get me started?? :?

I'm intrigued by this differentiation of rap and hip-hop into two separate musical genres. How would you define each of those terms?

Crap and bigger crap. I care nothing for it and don't really care how it should be defined.

If you'd like to teach me, go ahead, but I'll probably just... not read it at all. The genres that I hate, I really hate.

TheCunningStunt 11-04-2010 12:11 AM

Why do you hate Hip-Hop?

Popsicle Season 11-04-2010 01:36 AM

Well, it's been proven that it can simulate sexism and abuse. But music doesn't affect my mood, so I can't use that. I don't know how to explain it. It just pisses me off, hate me if you will.

RVCA 11-04-2010 01:49 AM

You just need to experience "good" hippity hop.

So you hate something even though you apparently know next to nothing about it? That seems kind of narrow minded to me.

Well, anyway, the answer is that hip-hop music and rap music are pretty much synonyms, though technically speaking hip-hop refers more broadly to the culture and rap refers to the music.

Where has that been proven?

TheCunningStunt 11-04-2010 10:50 AM

Yeah, where's that been proven?

I think you need to hear proper hippity hop, as RVCA said.
Rather than shit like 50 cent, telling us how rich he is over the course of 5 albums.
Unless of course you HAVE heard good Hip-Hop, what Hip-Hop have you heard?

duga 11-04-2010 11:00 AM

Yeah, I hope you realized the can of worms you just opened up, Popsicle. Generally everyone who joins this site and ends up sticking around ends up liking some hip hop or other. People here know their **** and dumping on a genre like that is a big no no. Trust me, there is music in every genre that you will like. You just have to put in the work.

I still don't like Progressive Rock, so that's not entirely true.
One of these days though...

Well, you are just weird. I seriously don't know how you haven't found even ONE band that you like. I'll keep feeding them to you, too. My mission is clear. Do you like Tool? They are technically progressive in a lot of ways.

TheCunningStunt 11-04-2010 11:24 AM

I didn't like Lateralus, I may have to revisit some Prog-Rock sometime soon.
It's been a while. But yeah, as a general rule of thumb - in every genre you'll find something you like. I really like In The Court Of The Crimson King so I've found at least one album I like. If it wasn't for 7 minutes of Moonchild, it'd be perfect.

You might not like this one, but I infinitely love it.

BOC = god

^She speaks the truth.

But you really should give hip hop a chance :)

Here, my favorite:

Actually, all of the things you listed I like... Welcome to MB, sir! :wavey:

skaltezon 11-05-2010 11:12 PM

Thank you. I should probably broaden my tastes. http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...999/drinks.gif

I like all three of these. :)

Can you link me to some good examples?

EDIT: Evidently not. http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...de_999/hmm.gif

Where has that been proven?

I live in Hawaii; hip-hop and rap are basically the kings among music around here. Along with reggae. I've heard enough of it that I can't stand to hear it anymore.

And I don't know where. Sometime this year I did a report in school about how rap or hop-hop can affect the subconscious. I don't remember much about it. But I do remember that classic symphony was at the top and hip-hop was at the bottom. No offense.

They're really not that obscure of genres. In fact they're things I think every musichead should listen to at least once.

ravenRAWRRR 11-11-2010 03:37 PM

i think it would be more than appropriate to have a rap battle here and now...

For a moment I thought you said 'musclehead'. http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...e_999/haha.gif

I know they're not obscure, and I have listened to examples of these genres before. But I stopped listening after a while because I'm not moved by them. When I asked for good examples, I didn't mean illustrative.
But thanks anyway . http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...ide_999/hi.gif

Well personally I don't own any Gregorian Chant or polka collections (although I really should), but I know plenty about good ol' Dixieland to point you in the right direction if you're interested.

I'm really not. If you knew something good I'd know about it by now.

p.s. that was strangely condescending.
