Wouldn't it be easy if there was a link to the rules in the welcome?

even if you don't get to post that initial welcome message, you can still welcome new members and possibly ask other questions from them to get some feedback from them.

Such as favorite genres and if they play any instruments things of that nature.

it's completely voluntary. If you don't want to join it , you don't have to and you can still continue to welcome newbs as you have been doing.
