Hello to everyone!

Hello everyone,

My name is The Nice Guy and I'm from Tasmania, Australia. In recent times I've been looking at a few different music forums and Musicbanter seems to be the best one to join!

Music wise I generally like most genres of rock and I also dabble a little in good pop. The only real genre I hate is Rap/Hip Hop but I could also make a case for Metal in there as well. The genres that most interest me in Rock are Alternative, Prog and Art Rock. Saying that there is plenty of music from other genres that I love as well.

My favourite bands/artists would have to be Roxy Music, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Muse, The Who, David Bowie, Brian Eno, The Arctic Monkeys and Genesis.

And I also play the keyboard/piano! Only started this year but it's such a great and fulfilling thing to do.

Thanks for reading! :)

Welcome.

I'm going to put you on the spot a little bit.

State your cases for hating those two genres.

I'm just curious it's fine for you to hate them but I just would like to hear the reasons for those two specifically.

Welcome! :)

I'm wary of nice guys, but I'm partial to Aussies. So welcome!

most people are that's why nice guys get a bad rap.

I won't even go into how badly they are treated by females but that's another story.

Scarlett O'Hara 05-28-2011 05:23 PM

Let me guess, you're a nice guy?

Perhaps hate is too strong a word but personally I've never been interested in rap and hip/hop. The music itself in the genre always seems a little simple and not very original. The music to my ears alway seems to be there to serve the lyrics, which are not always that good either. Granted I don't listen to a lot of it and therefore my views may have been tainted a little by some poor experiences with the genre.

As for Metal there tends to be a lot of poor melodies and quite derivative music. A fair amount seems to be just braindead noisemaking, without much originality or subtlety. Again I don't listen to a lot so I have an open mind if anyone wishes to change my opinion.

that's a good thing around here in musicbanter land over time if you have an open mind I'm pretty sure you will come across some artists/bands which go against your previous misconceptions of those two genres as a whole.

it has the potential to be long term.

I just took her statement to imply that I don't have a gf actually

daisymayhem 05-29-2011 10:38 PM

Hey guys! I'm also new to Music Banter and I'm super stoked to share my thoughts with all you music lovers! Thats what I am :) How can anyone who love music "hate" Hip Hop/ Rap? :(

I've already discovered so many new bands! Have I been living under a rock?

I'm a resident of O-H-I-O and I'm an artist! Mostly abstract sketching!

There's no such thing as long term until you're in one for long term.

Does she know she's your girlfriend?

I'm a dude who raps for fun. I'm from PA. You...should make a cool abstract sketch for my mixtape I'm working on. That would rule.

Welcome TheNiceGuy.

No, she doesn't know that she's my girlfriend. I'm the only one in the relationship that knows.

You never know, I thought maybe you might have grown out of it. A leopard can't change it's spots though.

Hate to stray off course on DJ's relationship thread, but welcome Nice Guy! Solid list there, notably one band in particular.
