Hey!

I just joined the site. My name's Phil. I'm from Ottawa, Ontario. I'm in my fourth year of university studying English and philosophy.

I listen to and play ambient music, dream-pop, post-rock shoegaze, slowcore for the most part. My favourite bands include Low, Slowdive, Mogwai, Radiohead, and Lovesliescrushing.

I think that's all.

Hey, welcome to MB! Ottawa's a cool place. I have some family there, and plenty of friends at Carleton or U Ottawa, all of them in fourth year. Maybe you know some of them

I'm from Toronto, though I spend my days in Hamilton because that's where I go to school. Fourth year music major here, getting a minor in Political Science. Not graduating yet, though.

Hope you enjoy it here!

Sorry about the late reply. Lots of personal stuff going on.

I actually go to Carleton. If any of your friends are in 3rd or 4th year of English or Philosophy, then there's a good chance I know them.

My shoegaze band got a new drummer today. We had been using a live fill-in for a while. We also have a whole bunch of shows lined up. So stoked.

EDIT: Woaaah. I just noticed my sig had been censored. I skimmed over the rules, but didn't realise they applied to signatures. I just thought I couldn't start a thread promoting my band. o.O

Any promotion of ones band is against the rules. More specifically, making an account for the sole purpose of advertising your band is against the rules.

However we practice leniency and tolerance with our established members. Once you have shown you are here to contribute to the forums and the community then you will find yourself able to share your band with us.

Awesome. Are you into James Ulmer at all? Also, which noise artists tend to influence you?

One messed up (and amazing) band.

Also, if you like Beefheart's saxophone solos, then you should probably look into Kaoru Abe... whose playing is much more technical than Beefheart's, but shares the same general aesthetic.

(I'm guilty of trying to mimic his style of playing on my violin).

Melt Banana is awesome. Have you ever heard of Daughters? They're an American noise-punk-type thing and are definitely influenced by Melt Banana's weird, dissonant guitar sound.
