Ladies, gentlemen and other creatures

I'm convinced that if I ever become deaf, I will go insane and die within two weeks.

That's just about how much music means to me. But enough about me, let's talk about you.

Oh, yes, and pleasure to meet you all!

Janszoon 07-17-2012 05:10 AM

Nice avatar!

Who are some of your favorite artists?

mervi 07-17-2012 05:53 AM

Why thank you, sir!

Well, when it comes to music, I'm schizophrenic: depends on the mood, a lot. I'm bad at genres, but I'd say I'm an indie folk - folk rock - indie rock - bluegrass - alternative - electronic - violin-laced Reggae rock - classical-ish kinda gal. I can listen to anything between Andrea Bocelli and Rammstein, as I said, depends on the mood. But ok, I try to answer your question. Here's a list of few bands/artists I listen to: Carpark North, Noah and the Whale, Damien Rice, Johnny Flynn, Mumford and Sons, Hot Hot Heat, Band of Horses, Eddie Vedder, Editors, Jeff Buckley, Tori Amos, Satellite Stories, Florence and the Machine, Andrew Woodworth, Andrea Bocelli, Fair to Midland, Grandfather Birds, Aqualung, Ringside, ZOX, Katzenjammer, Placebo, Travis, Kate Bush, The Feeling, Weezer, The Kooks, Rammstein, PMMP, Miljoonasade, The Sounds, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Knife, Mew, Disco Ensemble... um, I think that's enough for starters. Oh! And Regina (from Bosnia-Herzegovina, not Regina from Finland, I don't like that...as if anyone would even know these two bands :D )

And yes, I am from Finland but no, I'm not a fan of The Rasmus nor Nightwish.

And how about you?

Nice. I loved Hot Hot Heat's first album and dig a little Jeff Buckley, Tori Amos, The Knife and Weezer from time to time.

Why do you like these guys?

Because they're fun and catchy. I wish there were more pop acts out there that were as enjoyable to listen to as they are.

Blarobbarg 07-17-2012 08:27 AM

Welcome to MusicBanter, Mervi. I can't say I like almost any of the same acts you do, but I always appreciate intelligent music lovers here! Hope you stay!

The Batlord 07-17-2012 09:33 AM

Has anybody seen a dog run through here? It's a golden retriever and answers to the name, "Blondie". God damn it, that Korean restaurant is gonna want it's money back.

mervi 07-17-2012 10:31 AM

Thanks, Blarobbarg! I probably will stay, at least till the end of my holiday. After that it's just working and sleeping (perhaps little eating somewhere in the middle). Damn, sometimes I just wish I was filthy rich and needn't to work. Anyhow, I'm always open for new music (main reason why I came here in the first place), so feel free to educate me.

...and THE Batlord... Sorry, I just woke up from a nap and am not prepared for this. Gotta wait till the brain fog clears. But just in case you don't find your dog: I'm blonde and can bark like a dog extremely convincingly. Not that I wanna become chop suey, but hey! If that's what it takes, then that's what it takes!

Personally I just like Sexy and I Know It because it's rather funny, butt he rest of them, meh, I don't care for the rest. OK they're not as bad as BrokeNCYDE butstill, eh. Then again, I like some stuff that might be absolutely ungraspable to others as well so meh.

Thank you for noting the "The" in my...name. More people on this forum should recognize and acknowledge my singular nature and bow down before my greatness.

So sayeth The Batlord.

mervi 07-18-2012 12:08 PM

No problem, sir. It was my pleasure!

The Batlord 07-20-2012 10:47 AM

You may kiss my ring.

mervi 07-21-2012 02:07 AM

What an honour. May I polish your shoes too?

The Batlord 07-21-2012 10:33 AM

I don't wear shoes, but my toenails are in need of a good buffing.

mervi 07-21-2012 12:38 PM

Will do, will do.

I'm starting to think I should change my name into "Jeeves, The Batlord’s valet".
(this is not a request)

Trollheart 07-21-2012 05:54 PM

Welcome mervi, you certainly seem to have made an impression. Lot of bands there I have never heard of (shut UP you lot I know there are about a thousand bands you all know that I've never heard of shutting my ears now can't hear you lalalala...!) :) as I'm into what people round here would call more "mainstream" stuff.

Still, always good to broaden your musical horizons. Although Janz? LMFAO? Over my still-twitching corpse... :nono: ;)

Welcome!

It's funny that I listed 40 bands but the two people who have commented on my list have honed in on the same single band.

Thank you! I really feel welcomed :) I have to admit I don't know half the bands they're talking about here either. Only mainstream bands get across the Atlantic, so most less known American bands haven't reached my ears...yet.

That always happens - no matter how many good deeds you do, people will only remember you for the bad one. Not saying you've done anything bad, just a figure of speech.
