I'm a singer

Hi!

I'm a singer and I love writing music! I'm new to this forum.
This seemed like a good place to show people my music.

Here's a video from a recent performance in LA.
I hope you guys like it!

Tell us about your favourite artists.

There's a lot of music that I listen to.
I like jazz, rock, metal, pop (not much of it though).
I guess it depends on the mood that I'm in.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of jazz. Since I just graduated, I guess I've been absorbing a lot of that hehe.

Is anyone here a musician too?

Ah, a fellow jazz lover. Wonderful. Who are your favorite jazz artists?

I play drums, by the way. Sort of jazzy hip hop with the occasional double kick fill. Was in a band, but we sorta dissolved so now I'm waiting around for a new one.

Ohh and favorite artists:

jazz: Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Dave Holland, Thelonious Monk
rock: Muse, Radiohead, Queen, Jeff Buckley, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam
metal: Porcupine Tree, Tool, Pantera

and others, I'm just saying these from the top of my head ;-)

That's great! I graduated from a vocal program, but we had some drums lessons. They made us play odd time signatures and metric modulations hehe, it felt useless at the time, but I'm glad they made us do it. It was very helpful. I think every musician should be proficient in these topics.

I'm a bit more into darker nu jazz, free jazz, or older stuff but those artists aren't bad (especially Monk, who was obviously a genius).

Yeah, I wish I knew more theory, I never learned how to play as a student, I'm mostly self-taught. Ah well. DIY and all that.

Well, music is really just about playing music.
I think theory matters only if you can use to make something nice with it. Otherwise it's just a bunch of rules.
