Default Another Noob

Hi all, new here and thought I'd say hi. Looked around the forum briefly and will look around more. Always looking for new music that is good. I am not one of those who like a band because the music is good, the lyrics must be good also. Lyrics must have meaning for me. I love heavy metal and rock. I am not into the guys in metal that sound like they are trying to sound like they are trying to pass a kidney stone or something.. use your voice, anyone can try and sound like a bear, very few can do it without sucking. I like a lot of the music of the 90's, I am 35 so imagine that..

I like some rap, mostly older there. I like some country be it very little there. I also like mellow bands like John Butler Trio. I have a very open mind when it comes to music, I'll give anything a listen a few times, once is not enough I do not think, usually will give it 3-5 listens unless is just sucks to much. Some of the dubstep remixes of songs like Eyes on fire by Blue Foundation are good. The new Korn with the dub is pretty good. A lot of older music is really good to, CCR, BTO, Boston, The Doors etc. I also like bands like NOFX, Real Big Fish, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys.

I know I am a noob but this forum along with all the others I looked at lack one area I think is huge. A live music section dedicated to just live music, to me, if a band sucks live they are not a great band. They are just studio musicians that need the tools of the studio to not sound like someone is killing a rat.. But to their credit yeah they are making more money than I am. But it should not be about the money!!! It should be about kicking butt live. They all need to take a lesson or two from Iron Maiden I think.

You can probably tell (I hope) by my name that Iron Maiden to me is simply the best band ever. Take a live album of theirs, remove the crowd noise and bam there is the studio album. This is what a band should be, go see them live and they kick butt. Fear of the dark.. what a feeling when 80,000 people are in harmony, still gives me goose bumps thinking about it. Running Free, yea I could list way to many.. I saw linkin park live and wow I was disappointed, they sucked, it was so bad I left early.. stay in the studio please. But after one see's and listens to Iron Maiden live, so far everyone else falls short.. Metallica was ok, Megadeth was pretty good, Dave is the man, sublime was ok (the original lineup, RIP), slipknot was good, Ozzy was pretty good but still none compared to IM.. Slayer was chaos, got bloodied and bloodied a few there, was fun. But for live, no one compares to IM.. Will be glad to give a listen to anyone you think may compare..Good luck.

So anyway, Hi.

Hi. Another big Maiden fan here. Thought that from your username you were either fan of the boys, or maybe a girl into more medieval stuff!
Anyway welcome and yes, I share your views on a lot of that stuff, especially the "death growls" --- absolutely hate those, and will refuse to listen to a band whose singer uses them. Pity, as I'm sure otherwise I could be listening to some damn good metal --- Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Haggard etc --- but like you, if I can't make out what the guy is singing, what's the point?

Good to see a Maiden fan around. They were one of the bands that really got me into metal back in high school. I think Powerslave was like the fourth album I ever bought, along with Killing Is My Business. The Wal-Mart music section wasn't doing too shabby that day.

Excellent, welcome to here. Perhaps you should create a discussion as to whether or not live performance should be valued over studio creation. You could start a healthy debate with that one.

Thanks for the welcomes. I don't think I will be starting any debates because I work 2 jobs and just do not have the time to keep up with a debate.

I adore Iron Maiden, and if you like Brave New World I will like you more.

I love Brave New World. I honestly cannot think of an album of theirs I cannot play from start to finish. I have about 11k songs on itunes and the play count is lop sided.. Anything Iron Maiden is hundreds ahead of everyone else. Megadeth is 2nd. All the others.. their time may come.

Love that album. Iron Maiden having been sounding more and more mature ever since they came back with that album. A shame that Bruce's vocals are starting to show their years.

Agree, a classic album and the one that "saved" Iron Maiden for me after the pretty godawful "Virtual XI" and "X Factor". Was really only going to give them one more chance, glad I did. A return to the power and passion of "Powerslave" and "Somewhere in time", with longer songs and much better melodies than the other two previous albums put together. AND the return of The King! One of the first albums featured in my journal, over a year ago now.

Yes exactly, a very solid album! Well you have to give him some credit he's been singing for 30 years!
