Hello everyone, Slowbro here from the Midwest of the USA. I used to visit a terrible forum for music discussion which I will not name.
I like the way this one looks and operates, and it seems that the people here are friendly and helpful. So hopefully I can contribute and stick around for a while.
Music has quite nearly been a part of my life since I was born. I feel like I've gone through every listening and playing phase there is. Starting with Dadrock, rebelling to Hip-Hop and Gangster Rap, transitioning somehow into extreme metal for a while. I listened solely to Black Metal for an entire year in high school.
It almost makes me sick to think about it.
As for now, I think I listen to music for the "right" reasons, and there really isn't much influence on what I like outside of my own brain. There is no genre I dismiss, I enjoy a very wide variety of stuff compared to friends and other people I know.
That is one of the reasons I seek to be a part of this community, I want music to continue to be a big part of my life, but with friends that only listen to scrubstep and and the local pop radio station, there really isn't anyone to enjoy music with or to accompany me to shows.
I don't want to come off like I think I have better taste than them, that is one thing I will never understand; elitists. I feel like different people listen to different music all for very different reasons. Some people don't see music as an art, some people don't make music as an art. And that is fine. It's so diverse it can really serve any purpose.

Wow, after reading all that, I realize I am terrible writer. Sorry for that mess of thought.

So anyway right now I like Electronic music, but I haven't listened to enough to know what I am talking about. I like Electrocada's "The Hass Effect" a whole lot, and instrumental Hip-Hop (I think that's what it is anyway) like Bonobo and Blue Sky Black Death.
In the Metal field, I really only like stuff like Protest the Hero and old The Human Abstract now. Anything else feels a little abrasive to me even though I used to be a metal only kind of guy.
I also really like Old-School Hip-Hop.
Uhh... What else?

I love playing competitive games like SCII, CS:GO, and ANY fighting game.

I've always considered Bonobo to be trip hop, but I'm a fan of him as well. I think you'll find there are quite a few trip hop fans here.

I have only heard a few tracks from DJ Shadow, but I liked 'em all.
I really like Nujabes and BSBD as mentioned.

Welcome to MB, Slowbro. Stick around, you seem pretty awesome.

For electronica/instrumental hip hop, check out DJ Krush. Doesn't exactly fit, but it's really awesome, and definitely has a hip hop flavor to it.

For metal, you may check out Russian Circles. They're instrumental, and a little bit more calm/laid back than a lot of metal bands. Still great, though.

I actually already have Russian Circles in my library, but have never listened, ha. I have this terrible disease where when someone recommends me music I download it and forget about due to finding something else cool during the time it took to download.

It'll be good to have some new blood in the Metal Forum. We've got plenty of people like myself who love the old school and a few people into the more experimental bands, but we've lost most of the people into more modern metal.
