new and don't know how to download music

Hello,
My name is Darryl Dayton.
I recently purchased an RCA MP3+ and have done the download for it as well as the frostwire download per suggestion from others.
I am 62 years old with limited computer skills (self taught) and can not figure out how to search for the old rock and roll music I want to download to my MP3 on the frostwire site.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Darryl

No idea about frostwire (assuming you're legit and not a spammer trying to funnel traffic to frostwire?) but if you have limited computer skills be wary of file sharing. If anything you download unzips as an exe or similar assume it's a virus, delete it and try again. Also paranoia-wise it's probably not a good idea to use your real name and say hi I'm looking for illegal downloads.

You could also check this thread for alternatives: Sources of Free Music

You could always check this site too, where I buy most of my music: Download mp3 music from megaboon.com

Also check the computer tech support thread in the lounge subforum, where people will always be willing to help you with any questions you have about computers and such....

No spammer here. It is easy to find anyone's name on the net so I am not concerned about that. frost wire is legal file sharing of music and I am aware of viruses and am careful about clicking on attachments or zip files as well as have an anti-virus program.

I thought someone could walk me through the process for frost wire here.

Good to know. Welcome to MB.

Have you tried searching rock and roll blogs? If you have a particular artist in mind you can try googling.

ie.
chuck berry blogspot

Usually if they have posted one artist of interest there will be more once you find a good blog.

Frostwire have their own forum, where surely they'd be better able to help you than we would...

No, the program itself is legal.
If you download any copyrighted material off it that is illegal.

Explain please?

I am an old guy and began recording my purchased vinyl albums onto cassettes with a cassette player/recorder when they became available. I certainly was not going to re-purchase the same music I already owned in order to play it in the new equipment that I also had to purchase to change with the times. I already own a bunch of CDs of the same music I had purchased years ago on vinyl that I want to now download on my new MP3 player. Are you telling me this is illegal? If so, then I am going to be a lawbreaker because I am NOT buying it again.

I am assuming that music sharing is no different. Someone bought it, stored it on a file and is now sharing it with others. How is this different then me lending an old vinyl album to someone back in the day that wanted to record it to their cassette player? This can also go back to the days of sock hops when people would get together for a dance and bring their records for everyone to enjoy at the same time.

If these music sharing sites are illegal then why haven't they been shut down by the law?

I get that the music industry has created their own problem that they have yet to figured out how to encode with protection. It is my understanding that the only way artists are making money with their music today is by touring and playing live. Yes, it is a problem for them but it looks to me like they (or the industry) created their own problem.

If you own the CDs that makes it a pretty simple case of ripping the CDs and just copying the MP3s onto your player.

Well, that is one of my problems. I have taken a CD I own, plugged my MP3 player into the USB port thinking that I was downloading it to the player but it
did not. Rather it loaded it into the C drive and my music file in my
computer. Now I have know idea how to get it from the computer to the MP3 player to play it in my car.

Found these instructions with a quick Google. If you're not sure where the files are on your computer try doing a file search for files *.mp3

Instructions
Using Drag and Drop

1 Connect your RCA MP3 player to the computer using the USB cable that came with your device and click the Windows "Start" button.

2 Click "My Computer" (Windows XP) or "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7). You should see your RCA MP3 player in the devices section. Double-click your RCA MP3 player in the devices section to open the device. A new window will launch. You should see the "Data View" and "Media View" folders.

3 Double-click the "Media View" folder to open it. Drag songs from the folder you saved them in on your computer and drop them into the "Media View" folder to upload them to your MP3 player.

4 Close the Media View window when you finish, and then click the "Safely remove hardware" icon next to the clock to launch the hardware window. Click your RCA MP3 player in the hardware window, and then click "Stop." When prompted, disconnect your MP3 player from your computer.

aw man. i feel for ya! it's taken my dad a very long time to convert to a digital medium, and i'm familiar with your frustrations.

it sounds like you've figured out how to get the data (songs) from your CD's onto your hard drive (C drive). that's good.

now it comes down to what kind of mp3 player you use. if you tell us that it would help. some of them require software to enable you to load your music onto them. some of them you can treat as another drive or file folder and just drop files into it. if the latter is the case, you're easy. either way though, you're likely going to need a piece of software that will convert the files you get from your CDs (cda files) into MP3 files. a quick google search will yield free results.

so yeah. what kind of mp3 player do you have?

edit: it appears stp and i were going at this at the same time! my bad.

I know where the CD I downloaded is on my computer

Instructions
Using Drag and Drop

1 Connect your RCA MP3 player to the computer using the USB cable that came with your device and click the Windows "Start" button.

When I plug the RCA MP3 player into the USB it brings up a window titled "auto play" with different options but none of them titled as you have indicated in the next instruction (#2)

I have Windows 7. Yes, I know where this is and when I double click it it does bring up another window but there is nothing titled "data view or media view. In this window it has the rcaeasyRip,setup.exe and when you click on it asks you if you want to allow changes to your computer which if I do this I think it will just install it a second time. It is already installed because it ripped the CD in my CD holder in the computer to the music file in my computer already.

If you have installed Easy Rip you should be able to use that to load the player. According to this page (Transferring and Managing Files) you click on this http://www.voxxintl.com/images/commo...814_FAQ_10.png to access the file transfer. Don't know if that is your player model but the procedure should be the same.

According to that page you can also load songs by dragging them on to the drive letter where you see it mounted in Windows Explorer.
