Love meeting musicians, playing music and listening to music

Hi all. I'm a retired chappy that loves playing music of various different types on my soprano saxophone. In the past the music I have played has been mainly folk music but I am expanding that a bit these days.

I also love playing tennis at my local club to get exercise.

I've realized that, although I spend lots of time playing music, I don't spend too much time talking about music so this forum seems a good chance to remedy that.

I enjoy meeting other musicians and playing at pub music sessions plus sometimes go busking. I'd love to meet more musicians but, living on the borders of Exmoor in the UK, the most musical sound I often hear is just the sound of sheep :-)

Welcome to MB we have a few members that are pretty talented around here.

What are some of your favorite artists/bands?

Hi, welcome to Music Banter! Greetings from all the way across the pond :wavey:

I play tennis too, and several instruments - flute and guitar mostly. Hope to see you around!

What do you think about a website that will allow musicians to collaborate online?

A place where producers, composers, and vocalists and get together and post to different projects from anywhere in the world?

Hi Cardiff

There are places where musicians can meet other musicians online but the problem to me always seems that playing music together is such a personal thing that it's difficult to know if it will work just from an internet conversation or recording.

The enormous variety of genres is a problem too and musicians can be so piccy (as I probably am too)

Distance is also a problem when the ideal person can be miles away so that the cost of getting together makes working together at a gig prohibitative unless it pays huge fees which for most (including myself) is unlikely.

I'm not sure about collaborating online virtually. The speed of the internet connection in West Somerset is probably not fast enough for live playing together in a sort of vitual band.

3% of the population, according to research I did, are musicians having the sort of level of playing ability to join together in a band so in my local area there should be at least 300 but they are well hidden, perhaps many don't even use the internet as my area is very retired.

I don't want to sound negative but can't pretend to have the answers. i wish I did.

Thanks djchameleon for your welcome. I like listening to classical music but i play a mixture of traditional folk music and some pop.

Welcome tot he site. You seem like you will be a great poster. Lots of stuff to get involved with here if you actually take the time to do so. Look forward to it.
