Dezzy is a cool name! But if you had the choice, Crouching Hedgehog all the way :D

Dezzy is famous.

Dont listen to gabbagabba_hey ever, because she punched my face...
I only snapped an elastic band and then BAM!
She punched my face.

But quite rightly so. Gals suck.

i agree, i grew up with men only, my dad and bros and all my female friends that are very feminine(even though i do like to feel pretty sometimes and all that time consuming stuff that i usually don't bother with) i get annoyed with all my female friends and all my closest friends have been guys, but i guess that's every other girl!

Dezzy 06-25-2005 05:39 PM

Taking all your comments on board, I will keep the name Dezzy. As you said I would have to re-register and in the process kill Dezzy off. That just doesn't feel right. So Dezzy it is.

adidasss 06-25-2005 05:42 PM

huraaa!!
so dezzy, are you really 36-37?

Dezzy 06-25-2005 05:43 PM

Yeah mate, I am. What age are you?

adidasss 06-25-2005 05:48 PM

hehe....i'm 23 and you might be surprised to know i'm one of the older members of the forum....but don't despare, satchmo is an old geezer too...:)

adidasss 06-25-2005 05:49 PM

did you say what newer bands you like?

Dezzy 06-25-2005 05:52 PM

Newer bands, I like Oasis, Beck,

adidasss 06-25-2005 05:57 PM

hmmm....beck's good but oasis.....anyway, hope you find some great stuff through this site, download away...

Dezzy 06-25-2005 06:27 PM

Beck is something special. I take it your not a fan of Oasis. I like them because many of the songs are, I dunno, Uplifting and powerful. I just like the music. If anything what do you think Oasis have contributed to Music History? (positive or negative)

adidasss 06-26-2005 12:14 PM

to music history? nothing much, just another brit rock band, and i used to like a couple of their songs and one from the previous album, but not enough to really get into them, not to mention that their constant attempts to get attention through the media by being total pricks really pisses me off....

Dezzy 06-26-2005 01:10 PM

But the media attention is often out of the hands of the artist(s). We can all be pricks at some time, it's just that we don't have the press in constant hot pursuit. Do you not agree?

adidasss 06-26-2005 02:33 PM

i'm affraid not, saying eminem is a stupid git and that nothing good ( music wise ) came out of america except for the strokes and other inflamatory statements like that have no purpose but to attract attention to themselves

Dezzy 06-26-2005 02:37 PM

Yeah but it's only words from an individuals view point.

right-track 06-26-2005 03:03 PM

I bought the fist two Oasis albums, loved the first and thought the second was... o.k.
Since then I've formed the opinion Oasis are tapping into music that's been done before, which frustrated me because I think Noel is a talented song writer and capable of being...more original!
As for Liam I think he brings it all on himself, although I suspect a lot of his comments
are tongue in cheek and he buzzes off the wind up.
Top tune; Cigarettes & Alcohol. What's yours?

Hello Right Track,
Your correct about the first 2 albums being sorta V/good and ok respectivley. In the studio they would always struggle to keep the standards of the 1st two albums. I really love The Masterplan album of B/sides, in particular Rocking Chair, It's good to be free, and a brilliant version of I am the Walrus.
You said Cigarettes and alcohol as top tune, I agree. I also like Columbia & Up in the Sky.
Who do really like, Right Track?

right-track 06-27-2005 04:04 PM

I am the walrus was a great cover, as is Come On Feel The Noise.
Forgot about The Masterplan B/ sides (see now you got me remembering why I liked them In the first place) also like Roll with It.
Like you Dezzy I'm not as young as most on this forum, so my tastes go a bit further back, that and a love of all 60's stuff!
Kinks/Rolling Stones/The Who/Small Faces/Hendrix etc.
From the 70's; The Clash/Stranglers/Stiff Little Fingers/Talking Heads.
But my real passion is with Northern Soul. Not seen any threads in this forum yet, but some have an interest in more mainstream soul (motown).
I'm here to find anything new, anything interesting. Adidasss has a thread on Cesaria Evora worth looking at in 'International music'. Never heard of her before coming here, that alone has made it worthwhile already.
Do you have any unusual tastes in music, any reccomendations Dezzy?

How old is Satchmo? I am 41, and it would be nice if I weren't the Grampa around here.

adidasss 06-27-2005 06:38 PM

hehe...he's 34 or 35 and dezzy is also 36-37...you're all grampas but very cool grandpas.....:) i hope it doesn't bother you too much that you're the eldest, when it comes to music age really is just a number and some of the young'ns have a really extensive knowledge of music and can be of great help.....( and btw keanu reevs is 40, and he's way cool...:))

Right Track I dig the 60s stuff too. I say dig as I like the hippy woodstock stuff , Jefferson Airplane, Hendrix, and I think Love are far out Man!!
My dad recently off loaded his entire vinyl collection of Steppenwolf to me. Prior to listening to em I'd only heard The Pusher & Born to be wild. There are loads of real decent tunes spread across the albums. Two spring to mind Sookie Sookie & A girl I knew. There are others but I can't remember the titles.
From the 70s I loved the Punk of that time. Punk was the first time I was consious of fashion and broke away from my mams apron strings and went out and bought my own own punk gear. I think i'd just reached puberty.
I then got into the whole 2Tone scene
I'm not sure I have "any unusual tastes in music". I like Frank Zappa's Were only in it for the money album from 68. I picked up an album by this real mellow instrumentalist in America while there on holiday and subsequently found a couple more by him in an OXFAM on Oldham Rd. He's called John Klemmer. It's really nice relaxing soothing music that is sometimes what I enjoy.
You say your passion is Northern Soul. To be honest I know nothing about it.
I would say my passion is definately Reggae and hard Dub Music. I love the heavy Basslines and vibrations from the music.

You must recommend a good taster album in Northern Soul for me to buy.
I think on another post you mentioned Curtis Mayfield,
I've got this compilation album called Funk drops 2, CMs on that a top live tune called Memphis soul stew, its got like Billy Preston and other well known heads.

SATCHMO 06-27-2005 09:05 PM

One of the most popular examples of northern soul is Dobie Gray's Drift Away i.e. "Give me the beat boys, free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away".

Dezzy 06-27-2005 09:12 PM

Yeah Satchmo, I can recognise that song completely. Ta.

Trauma 06-27-2005 09:48 PM

Hi Dezzy!!!
You seem pretty fly for a Manc. guy!

In that respect I hope you stay and post a ton more!
You obviously can contribute to the site's already dazzling display of musical archives of knowledge that its current members have established!

Yeahh!!!
Talk to you later!

Dezzy 06-27-2005 09:51 PM

Hey Snickers, I take it "fly" is a compliment, if so thanks.
Look forward to talking to you to.

HAPPY B-DAY SATCHMO!! AND I HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD TIME...
and lads, take it easy, i don't want you braking a hip or something...ZING!:)

right-track 06-28-2005 04:14 PM

Blimey Dezzy, your'e gonna have to rename this thread 'Crinkly Corner' or somethin'. Good introduction to Northern Soul, there's a double cd that Virgin do with some big Northern anthems called 'Northern Soul - All Nighter', get it just about anywhere (HMV). There's a superb record shop in Town called Beatin' Rythme, on Tibb Street, sells full range of soul/R&B/Funk, it's a great place just to look around in, specialises in rare vinyl, well worth a visit.
Northern Soul tracks that have been covered are; Sliced Tomatoes - Just Brothers (instrumental) covered by Fat Boy Slim - Funk Soul Brother (think thats what he called it). Tainted Love - Gloria Jones, What - Judy Street, both covered (and slaughtered) by Marc Almond of Soft Cell. Marilyn Manson also covered Tainted Love, which I strangely like!
Incidentally Gloria Jones was married to Marc Bolan, she was at the wheel when the car hit the tree.( Jesus I could bore people to death with Northern Soul) Might start a Northern Soul thread and bore the entire forum
Surely you must have heard of Wigan Casino's allnighters in the 70,s?
Did you see any good punk bands in your puberty?:)

right-track 07-07-2005 03:10 PM

Psst...Dezzy...'cough,cough'...OI!

Dezzy 07-07-2005 03:32 PM

Hi Right Track, I know the shop well you mention on Tib St. Must have been past 1000s of times. Can't remember ever venturing in. Will seek out your recommendations.
I spend a lot of time, when time is on my side sifting through vinyl and CDs in the Aladdins caves, also known as charity shops. I pick up something special and my cash goes to charity. Everyones a winner.
Nice to read your last thread. I've been away recently for a week or so, doing the cliff richard thing, without the london red bus. (apologies for being cryptic, I'm currently in that zone) . I couldn't fathom your last post(above). I'ts probabally crystal but as said I'm in that zone.
