Yeah, I'm generalizing and stereotyping because I'm ignorant about the subject, and am happy to remain ignorant on the subject. I certainly mean no offense.

I didn't know there were African Amish... :)

I think the problem with fashion for the sake of fashion is that it just tries too hard and seems like such a vain pursuit to cover up some other insecurity. These two dudes...

Just trying way too hard.

I'm diggin' on that jacket.

Trying too hard? Overcompensating for insecurities? And you're comparing them to a shitty car with flames? The ignorance. Good god. I never, ever make presumptions about things I don't understand or know. I have no idea who they are, but I do like their clothes. You pass judgement on THEM and assume they're insecure? Wow. Well, get a load of this guy:

I dont think mr dave is wrong. You don't think a lot of people feel the need to really peacock themselves because they don't feel adaquit (spelling :) otherwise? Same goes for tattoos/piercings. Not everyone wearing something loud or extra fancy or everyone with a tattoo or piercing is guilty of this, but im sure a large percentage are.

That straight laced dude who has never been into art who suddenly gets a full tribal sleeve? The girl who has to wear super low shirts every day for boys to notice her? All the same really. Cant say I or probably everyone else in this thread hasnt been guilt of this action at some point in there lives to whatever degree.

Hey, why are you criticizing Freebase Dali all of a sudden?

CanwllCorfe 07-10-2012 08:08 PM

But the thing is that his perceptions of dress are completely different. The man in the suit is a designer and had been into fashion since he was a kid. He enjoys wearing tailored suits every now and again (as would anyone that appreciates them and enjoys wearing them), and always wears a hat with every outfit. That's his style. You may think he's "peacocking", but he'd be wearing those clothes whether or not anyone was around, because that's the way he likes to look. It's second nature to him. He doesn't try to look a certain way. Do I try to have the taste in music that I do? No. I like it because, well, I like it. I still don't get how you could assume that he's overcompensating, especially when you don't know who he is, and I'm assuming you don't know much about fashion. Here's one of his favorite artists, but I doubt it's actually one of his favorite artists. He's probably just showboating, and saying it is because it fits in with his vintage appearance.

And hey, he's wearing a suit. What a pompous ass.

I know you are making a joke but I do want to clear that up. I have nothing against tribal anything. In fact I would love to get one someday. I am speaking of a certain type of person that may get it. I dont personally know Freebase, other than what I have encountered on the forum. I do know however he is very much into art (enough to join a music forum) and has more life experience than your average 20-30something year old frat boy who are the kind I am referring to. I know he has been in the military and supports himself which is really all the validation I think one needs. I know he has mentioned he doesnt like it as much anymore because it doesnt mean anything, but in my honest opinion I think tattoos all shouldnt always have a deep meaning. They are like any other art, in that they shouldnt require some deep reason for existing other than for creative purposes. I say he goes and fills the rest of his body with them.

Whoa, I didn't mean to get in the middle of you guys' fashion fight. Seriously I was totally ****ing around and making no judgements on anybody.
Let's get this thread back on track with a photograph..
