I Love so many genres and time periods; particularly enjoy artists who either defy categorization, or mix-it-up. Will list some favorite bands (currently!:clap:)
Kasabian Garbage/Metric/Goldfrapp The Strokes/Jet/Mando Diao K. Flay The Blue Stones Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Razorlight/The Kooks Billy Boy On Poison Social Distortion Catherine Wheel The Charlatans (UK) I listen to current music, too and am always on the lookout for new stuff (for the most part, lately, I usually end up listening to British or Canadian bands). I also like discovering music I either wasn't aware of, or around for. I usually can't listen to any particular band for over several years, with the exceptions of INXS and Oasis, who I can still return to, just less excessively. Particularly love British. |

Hip-Hop/alt/rock
Not too well-versed in hip-hop, but I do like some crossover stuff. Tom Morello (Audioslave and Rage Against The Machine)-Exceptional guitarist. RAGM is too angry for me; like Audioslave better. TM put out a new release a couple months' ago "Atlas Underground"and there's some rap artists on it.
Also, Mike Shinoda's new release might interest you: "Post Traumatic", since he's part rapper and singer of Linkin Park. This is his solo working through his grief over Chester Bennington (RIP) and it's some outstanding accoomplishment. From hearing MS song "Make It Up As I Go" w/K. Flay I purch. her "Everywhere Is Somewhere" CD. She's genre-defying (and I like that). Since you like Garbage, too, I think you'd definitely like her. One reviewer described as If Garbage, Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Lorde had a baby, it would be K. Flay! and I think that's as good as description as any, b/c she really is unlike anyone before her! Since you like Oasis, I hadn't listened to their last release all that much and have just pulled it out again. Dig Out Your Soul. I'm enjoying all over again. While they called it their most psychedelic, I really think it's more of their most rockin' record, with just 2 songs really sounding psych. When I think of psych., in today's music, I think of Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Black Angels (not a particular fan; I don't much like psycheldic). I've also currently been into Catherine Wheel (90s throwback). They were sometimes pegged as "shoegaze" but not really. I don't like shoegaze, but I do like them. I've also been big into Kasabian, Razorlight (esp. "Olympus Sleeping" new October '18) and Metric (esp. newest "Art of Doubt") and Blue Stones (Black Holes..Solid Ground) over last couple of months. Hope some of this info's helpful....I came here to discuss and share info! |
I've seen you posting about Kasabian a bit. What's your favorite album by them? I've never heard them before.

Used to listen to some Garbage as a kid, don't really remember a thing about them though. Maybe I should try listening to them again. |

Sorry; I didn't realize how to set up notifications and just stumbled across these (but now I did figure out how to get notifications, too!) For me, Garbage just withstands test of time. While I can't forever listen to any one particular artist for more than a month straight, w/about 2 others as a break! during a "binge", I can repeatedly listen to Garbage on a pretty regular basis just about every other month w/out ever tiring of them. I can't really say that about too many. If you like Garbage, then it's worth also checking out Metric, particularly their newest release (Sept. '18) Art of Doubt (I just left a review). On favorite Kasabian album, hands down West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum! Followed closely by Velociraptor. A 2-pack CD is available with both, b/c after I'd gotten into them heavily over the summer, I purchased that for a friend, who loved 'em and got their entire back-catalog! I actually got for myself a DVD/CD Live At The O2 & that's what I've listened to (and viewed) as it's got the best selection from W. Ryder and Velociraptor. After that 48:13-that's quite a bit more electronic, though; it's not as accessible, but if ya hang in, it's a grower. If you get CD, it's well worth it, to get the Deluxe, b/c it comes w/DVD bonus live concert Summer Solstice in their hometown of Leicester (aka "Lestah"!) They're very generous with their packaging, so always look for deluxe editions... Kasabian have 6 albums, 5 of which have entered the UK charts at #1 and they're the #1 live act, as well. Sergio Pizzorno, writer, guitarist, backing vocals w/some leads categorizes them as spacerock...sounds good to me! Tom Meighan's on lead vocals. Last year, when it was a new release, I'd listened to "For Crying Out Loud" and that one didn't really wow me; that's got more of a Happy Mondays kinda sound, but friend likes this one, too. (I may take another listen and find I have different opinion.) Just like I'd been aware of them from song "Club Foot" and that didn't instantly ignite interest, but now I like "Club Foot" a lot. I caught a Glastonbury or Isle of Wright Festival on MTV Live and heard "Underdog" (W. Ryder) "Bumblebee" & "Eez-eh" (48:13) and that's when I instantly had to get 'em. Since then, other favorite songs are "Re-Wired" (Velociraptor), "Bow" (48:13) and, important: L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever) on W. Ryder; if I'd heard that instead of "Club Foot", I would've been into them for years already. Unfortunately, in U.S. we don't get a lot of the music that's at the forefront in England. I've long been exploring what's happening in music there and get notifications from NME online and will occasionally purch. an issue of NME or Q on Ebay and further explore from there. I am always wishing that every music service and websites would just make a British or Britpop category of its' own, since even if it's alternative or indie, the music's always so different bet. US and UK. I also like Cage the Elephant and The Dandy Warhols, both of whom gained success in England before US. Other outstanding British is Catherine Steel (from 90s) who defy categorization...heard from pandora radio and other listeners there; in particular albums "Ferment" and "Chrome". I'm also heavy into neo-garage and a particularly great album is (Swedish) Mando Diao "Hurricane Bar" if you like that kind of sound, and if you lean toward blues, then I'd recommend (Belgium) Black Box Revelation "Set Your Head On Fire".
