Nice to meet ya!

I'm really here just looking for a place to discuss music other than on standard social media websites, most of which I already dislike. Hope everyone's doing well here. I hope to eventually dig around this forum more.

My actual name isn't "pain", of course, but I'll go by that on here. My real name Sloane which I believe is of Irish origin, even though I was born in and have lived my entire life in Arkansas, USA my entire life. Strange.

I listen to a range of stuff and I'm still exploring my music taste in general. I wouldn't say there's one genre I prefer over any other. I'm willing to dive into anything. Other than that, I am... fairly boring. I spend most of my time drawing or hiking. See you around.

Welcome! So you draw, that's cool. What kind of stuff? What are some of your favourite bands/musicians?

OccultHawk 10-11-2019 10:21 AM

Welcome to MB!
You must really love bread.
What are some bands you enjoy?

Thank you! I typically draw fantasy-based things, mythical creatures and that type of thing. Nerdy, I know, but the first things I ever started drawing were dragons so I think the inspiration just stayed with me. I enjoy mentally inventing new species of animals and fleshing those out on paper, too.

I'm hoping this is a joke about "pain" being French for bread, and not some other obvious joke I'm missing. Thank you for welcoming me!

To answer both you and MarieMarie: My music taste doesn't have very much consistency, if I'm being entirely honest. I have been a fan of Lana Del Rey (I know, she's sort of a laughing stock in the alternative music scene, but I feel attached to her work) for quite some time, and I'd say I own more content and merchandise of her than of any other artist. I've also really got into Grimes and CocoRosie, and a bit of Bjork's work (not just saying that for ~indie~ points, her and CocoRosie have worked with a lot of the same musicians) these past few years. I'm also really into the rap group Metro Zu lately, and the musicians within there (Ruben Slikk would be my favorite) although I wouldn't say I'm an expert on rap or anything.

This may not be the correct place to ask, but while I'm here, why is it that my profile picture isn't displaying? It's 200 x 200 pixels, could that be a problem?

Frownland 10-11-2019 09:13 PM

Your profile picture just displays on your profile, on the boards your avatar is the one that shows. To add an avatar, go to User CP, then on the left tab click on Edit Avatar and you can upload or link one from there.

Welcome, btw.

Cool, we have an art thread for if you ever feel like sharing your drawings :)
And nothing wrong with liking Lana Del Rey, I don't know much of her music but love some of her new songs. And Björk is awesome

Thank ya!

Oui.

I love Lana's newest album, haven't really heard the older ones.
And **** the "alternative music scene", they're the joke.

For real. You don’t abandon greatness when it’s recognized. You savor the moment.

I've already found my people! :tramp: Mad respect to you all. All those "professional" (pretentious) music publications drug her through the mud, and then they suddenly love and worship her since her last album. Predictable.

Honestly, Honeymoon is the first of her records that I took notice of and really liked but NFR is the first to blow me totally away. I really need to go through her full discography. I think sometimes I try so hard not to miss anything I end up missing what’s right in front of me.

For real though, this forum is an incredible resource for discovering music. We waste a lot time bull****ting and trying to be funny but if you follow the music threads you’ll find there are some serious music fanatics who really know their **** around here.
