Mailie's Intro!

Hola, saluton, bonjour, Guten Tag!

My name is Mailie (yes, it is my real name) and I live in Richmond, Virginia. Originally from Portland, OR! I'm a 28-year-old mother with a beautiful daughter in her terrible twos. :)

I am currently finishing up my Bachelor's in Business Administration, but have always dreamed of being a songwriter. I'm not much of a singer (also I am way too shy) and I don't know how to read/write sheet music, and I don't know any instruments -- but I am working on changing that as soon as I finish school! However I have always been a writer at heart, writing short stories, poems, and songs since I was a dweeby kid.

I have a passion for different cultures and languages, so am hoping to translate my own works someday. I am learning Spanish but want to learn so much more!

Anyway, I have a lot more to say but I'll just end it here! Ciao!

Hi Mailie, welcome to the forum. What kind of music are you into? And can I conclude from your greetings that you speak French and German?

Why hello, Marie! I WISH!! No, but I've studied them. :) I'm focusing on Spanish, then once I'm proficient in that I'm back to French! Then German!

I like all sorts of music, except rap and (mostly) hip-hop. My favorite genre is Alternative Rock, for sure. What about you?

Thank you, it was my mom's idea to name me that, lol!

"Saluton" is an Esperanto greeting. I know, I know, Esperanto is pretty "useless" but it's fun to me so I've picked it up alongside Spanish. :) You're from Poland? I actually just found out I'm part Polish.

Me too. My Dad's side is all Polish. Can't speak the language though

Anyway, welcome to the madhouse. :)

Same, I don't know a lick of it! I've heard it's super hard, though I guess I shouldn't be put off by it if I studied Chinese, LOL

Thanks for welcoming me!!

I like all kinds of things too, the simplified story is that I started out listening to the Beatles, Rolling Stones etc. and then I discovered punk. And lately I've been discovering things like jazz and ambient music

I once saw a poll or something where polish and chinese (one of them) were the two top hardest languages to learn for a foreigner. Though I wouldn’t be so sure about that, there must be harder ones - even purely based on pronounciation or something (in polish it’s not very hard), like arab where you have to make the „kgh” sounds and so on.

It’s hard, but it’s quite rewarding to speak it - the language is very very precise, so if you master it you can speak your mind very clearly. Kind of like german (with it’s easy to make neologisms)
