Default Please allow me to introduce myself ...

I'm a man of ... er ... average means and taste!

I'm from Scotland, U.K. and my interest in music started young (aged 8, full disclosure: ELO). A couple of years later I saw The Sex Pistols on tv and the seed of punk rock was firmly planted in my mind. I came close to seeing them play live.

Aged 13 a pals brother, who was at Uni, took us to see Joy division supporting Buzzcocks. It was an electrifying experience & beginning of being allowed to see bands play live (thanks mum!).

Around 17 I started to develop in interest in traditional music e.g. blues & folk, & went to WOMAD 1985 at Mersa Island: cue my biggest music related epiphany.

I enjoy discovering new to me music, listening to recordings, & live music.

Music has always been an important part of my life.
Not just enjoyment, but also tweaking equilibrium of mental health.

I forgot to say I'm John. This is indicative of my usual level of competency.

@marie-monday

Punk too.

Africa is a rich source of good listening.
I guess 15-20% of my record collection is African.
Have you heard Toumani Diabate?

@Trollheart

Thank you very much.
Tom Waits is a GOAT!

@SGR

Many thanks.

I love a lot of electronic music, & things often played in discos.
My large collection of personal faults includes an inability to correctly ident' genres.
What disco acts do you enjoy listening to?

I haven't heard of Diabate, I'll check them out. As for punk, I'm a big fan of classic punk like the Ramones, and especially of post punk (the Raincoats!) and riot grrrl
