Levon Helm and "Midnight Ramble Sessions"

I'm curious if there's any Levon Helm Fans out here. I'm a huge fan of him, and have been since he was with THE BAND. I discovered sometime last year that he started doing a Midnight Ramble Sessions thing at his barnhouse in New York. His current band, Levon Helm Band, have been singing and playing blues/folk tunes, which include Sammy Davis on them. If you haven't heard the two volumes of Midnight Ramble Sessions stuff, it's definitely worth check out. One of my favorite songs by them is "The Battle Is Over, But The War Goes On." I just love Levon's new singing voice, and how his daughter is singing back up vocals on it. It's jsut great!!

He's a drummer...right?
I was under the impression he hung himself.
Or am I getting mixed up with someone else?

Allow me to answer this 3.5 year old question...with Wikipedia!

Mark Lavon Helm (born May 26, 1940), better known as Levon Helm, is an American rock musician and actor most famous as the drummer (and often vocalist) for the rock group The Band. Helm is known for his deeply soulful, country-style voice, and powerful drumming style highlighted on many of the The Band's recordings, such as "The Weight", "Up on Cripple Creek", "Ophelia" and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". His 2007 comeback album Dirt Farmer earned the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album in February 2008, and in November of that year, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him #91 in the list of The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.

Sorry RT, I'm looking him up to prep for a review.

I`m a fan....Levon is still actively playing and touring. When he is not touring he is performing with friends on the weekends @ His studio in Up State New York. I have several albums with "The Band" and I have 3 of his solo albums.

I love Levon. He's at the top of my list of people I have to see before they or I die. There was a good documentary about him that I saw on the tube the other day. It mostly covered his "Midnight Ramble Sessions" at his barn. Not only is he a good drummer and singer, he can hold his own on a mandolin and guitar. Every member of The Band was very talented, they all could play a multitude of instruments. They remain one of my favorites ever.
