It might be too intense for someone not too deep into jazz, but I'd recommend checking out Sun Ship next.

I would not recommend this.

You're right, if you want the hard stuff, go straight for Om or Ascension.

I just don't think Maria is going to enjoy Sun Ship if she's just getting into jazz. I mean, it took me a few listens to enjoy it.

Your expectations were just incorrectly primed by Kind of Blue.

Blame twelve year old me for hearing it in a restaurant and becoming infatuated with something before I ever saw a vagina.

Pretty weird for a restaurant to play Sun Ship, where was this at?

Sorry, I was referring to Kind of Blue.

Well I'll definitely check out Sun Ship now because I'm curious

But in all seriousness, you're right that it's hard to grasp and get into for someone who doesn't know jazz. There's many things I'm really enjoying about it so far though. The drumming sounds fantastic, with beautiful subtle shifts of rhythm. The stuttering piano on the first track was great too. The sax sounds like a hoarse voice but and some point it really screamed which genuinely frightened me.

Edit: I'm at the last track, the bass solo thing, and it's wonderful
