I'm going to reopen this.

This thread isn't being moved anywhere , and if anyone has a problem with that then keep it to yourself. Bitch about it in here & there's a nice juicy infraction waiting for you.

I don't think he's all that great, and certainly not on of the best singers of the twentieth century, he mainly got by on charm and a very rich, distinctive voice. He's still catchy though.

Tweekergoat 10-30-2007 04:56 PM

I love Frankey. His music is timeless. If you are ever in the mood to just sit back have a drink and relax Sinatra is always a good choice in music to make that happen.

I know Im back from sabbatical but is this guy serious? He "got by" one a rich distinctive voice but he's not great? I love this argument and cna't wait to use it more.

"he sucks, all he has is a great stage presence and a large degree of talent. Sometimes I can tolerate him"

petersmikael 11-08-2007 06:39 PM

I love his song "Cycles". That rules. :)

Wayfarer 11-12-2007 01:31 AM

In The Wee Small Hours is so good. Love the lonely, bar-hopping Frank, as opposed to...well, y'know..."shooby dooby doo, I love you," etc.

firstblood24 12-10-2007 01:16 AM

my wife is a huge Sinatra fan, he definitely had a strong distinctive voice

mjscarousal 12-10-2007 07:12 PM

Frank is phat lol I love him, his real kool. I love that song "Puttin on the Ritz" and that whole video was awesome. His such a talented dancer.

Friday 12-11-2007 10:34 AM

Any time anyone mentions 'Putting on the Ritz'.
I think of Gene Wilder <3

Farfisa 04-11-2008 07:10 AM

My collection of Frank Sinatra is up to 480 songs =D

dojo 04-11-2008 08:44 AM

There are lots of songs of his I really like. I am not into that genre, but some are really immortal

icebox 04-11-2008 08:59 AM

He's my dads fave so when every time he listens to his songs, I was able to listen as well.. I like this lines "fly me to the moon.." something more of "in other words..".. Sorry for incomplete lines..=D

frank sinatra is a god. everything he did was tasteful. never went through a fat elvis stage.

right-track 05-08-2008 12:59 PM

Then again, Elvis never went through the horses head in a bed stage.

abofkills 05-08-2008 01:20 PM

That can be arranged.
Pal up with your local mafia, make some offers that can't be refused, crack a few skulls in the right places and hey presto...you're an over-rated crooner. :thumb:

He probably had the rest in a burger though.

One of my college professors said Frank was the master of "floating" in his style of singing. I guess that means the way he transitioned from one phrase to the next? not positive about that though.

I like some Sinatra but only in small doses, I thought his voice was unique and haven't heard anybody since who sounded like he did. I know some say Michael Buble is a young Sinatra but I don't hear it.

Also, I heard Sinatra wasn't the easiest to work with... back in those days everyone in the band and Sinatra had to be perfectly in sync as they recorded in one shot (no multi-tracking).

draxus 05-09-2008 08:35 AM

Has anyone heard the cover of New York, New York by Reel Big fish? I swea, i think the singer sounds just like sinatra, if not close to it. Its pretty incredible.

Well, idk about exactly like him..but they are pretty similar. I just thought it was cool how they pull it off. But I think myself being an advent RBF fan. I like all their stuff.

The best covers are the ones that don't sound close to the original (imo). I can understand you are biased to RBF music but from my point of view (from the 30 seconds of the song I heard) this guy might as well just be in a bar singing for his friends as a goof. Perhaps that's what they were going for... I don't know.
Thanks for sharing though :)

icebox 05-10-2008 08:11 AM

just because my dad is listening to him during Sundays, I can say that made me like some of his songs. One of my top favorites is "Fly me to the Moon'.. cool!

blondiexboopx 06-03-2008 09:57 AM

Ol' Blue Eyes puts me in the best of moods. My world could fall apart and put on some Frank Sinatra or the music genre and I'll be just fine. Quite calming.

Civic Depreciator 06-03-2008 12:19 PM

My favorite songs of his are "I've Got You Under My Skin", "It Was a Very Good Year", and "The Way You Look Tonight".

littleknowitall 07-17-2008 07:03 AM

I bought a sinatra compilation album the other day from tesco's. £1 ....Bargain or what.
That's the great thing about the uneducated mass of music fans, they perpetuate a demand for the same god awfull music, which in turn depleats the price of all good music in the world for people like me to be able to afford :)

Whatsitoosit 07-17-2008 01:47 PM

I played a rock version of "It was a very good year" at a BBQ 6 years ago... it was fun.

kyleargyle 09-05-2008 08:42 AM

"In the Wee Small Hours" is the greatest album ever to sit alone and get drunk too.

Seriously.

RockGuitar101 09-25-2008 03:47 PM

Over time Crosby, Sintra, Elvis all 3 set the tone for music in todays singing.
The past makes today possible.
What I have noticed is todays singers sing a bit offkey and get away with it.
You didn't hear that musch years ago untill folk music came along, and most todays music is a folk rock sound. There are a few great guitarist still wh sing, but not many.

ProggyMan 10-01-2008 08:08 PM

lolwut

asahd3 11-02-2008 07:14 AM

Sinatra is from an era of people who don't really sing, they just do what I call, talk sing. Not rapping but not really singing either. I don't know...

boysetsfire 11-07-2008 12:36 PM

I love Frank Sinatra. Buble made him popular again, but of course the original is always far far better. I like how he has an orchestra everytime he sings live.
