Nina Simone

So I bought the Six Feet under soundtrack, and shes the first track on there ("Feeling Good"). I've never heard a Jazz song this well done. The only jazz I listen to is instrumental or with very few lyrics (Dizz galespie "Salt Peanuts" for example). I think most vocal jazz tracks of contrived fluff that was general period gloss. This however is closer to singer-songwriter material with a mini orchestra behind it,and I emplore everyone to give this song a chance, listen up until the music comes in before you decide if you don't like it.

Can anyone else recommend some Simone?

Muse did a cover of that song on Origin Of Symmetry and I didn't realise it was a remake at the time until funnily enough it was used to promote the last series of SFU.
I now prefer the Nina Simone version.

Feeling Good was amazing, her voice is incredible in that song.. And its so universal too, one of those songs everyone finds something they like about it. I've never actually taken it upon myself to find out more though, sorry..

Nina Simone has one of the most beautiful voices and sound ive ever heard. download 'Isn't it a pity'- truly one of the most beautiful songs in the world.

Feeling Good is my university basketball team's theme song. After about a thousand times, it starts to kinda degrade the song's beauty.

My recommendations:
Aint Got No I Got Life
My Baby Just Cares For Me
Blues For Mama
Here Comes The Sun
Sinnerman
I Put A Spell On you

I was just listening to Nina Simone and I just sorta stumbled onto this thread.

At any rate, I was listening to Nobody Knows When You're Down and Out off her The Definitive Collection album and I just thought that this song really sums up the way I feel right now.
Something about it just puts me at ease with everything. I don't feel hungry (even though it's been at least two hours since I last ate).
Anyhow the albums I have of hers are:
The Blues
Silk & Soul
Little Girl Blue
How it feels to Be Free
Anthology

and Forbidden Fruit

My favorite by her is Turn Me On, and it porbably has nothign to do wth the lyrics or the instrumentals as much as it does the title.

Most of us know her recognised tunes (My Baby Just Cares For Me-I Got Life Etc) but I have been pleasantly surprised at what else she has to offer. I have been listening to a fairly typical Best Of compilation but I have been impressed with both the music and some of her interpretations of classic songs. Her sound skims upon a soul asthetic but retains a Jazz infused ethic. I think it is time for a re-evaluation of this impeccable songstress.

How amazing is this?:
